A word on Cat Trainable Dogs
Dogs that are deemed 'cat-trainable' have been tested to see how they react to cats, however, this does not mean they will do fine with cats immediately. We always suggest a cautious introduction as well as continued training to help ensure a healthy and safe relationship between your new greyhound and your small household pets. We use the term 'cat-trainable', rather than 'cat-safe' so you are not lured into a false sense of security. We want you to be prepared for some amount of work with introductions.  We will provide you with the necessary tools and education to ease the introduction between your new pet and your existing pets.

Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

New dogs have arrived!

Its Movie Time! This handsome show-stopper is a nice easy-going boy with a gentle disposition. Movie will be an easy addition to most any home. He
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Movie is a sweet sweet boy who is slowly learning to trust. He gets along great with the other three greyhounds, ignores the 2 kitties and is not scared by the constant commotion in our house. He likes his kennel but does spend some time in the living room on dog beds in the evenings.  Movie does not  like to go outside much. Walks are scary for him still. He never goes potty in the house and can hold it forever, because he really doesn't like it in the scary outside.  He does well on wood and linoleum floors and knows how to use the doggy door.  He does really like to sip tea if left on the coffee table!  He is such a joy to have around. He is quiet, demure, and doesn't ruffle any feathers here.  He has confidence in him, just needs someone to show him the way so he can blossom into a loving companion.

Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Gene is a quiet, friendly boy. He will be an easy addition to most any home. Gene has a calm disposition and should be quick to learn the ropes. He
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Gene Gene the cuddle machine.  This big handsome boy is just a puppy in disguise.  He's taken very well to his foster home, learned the stairs quickly and hasn't tried to mark in the house even once.  He's great with our dogs and our cats, and handles the hardwood floors without a second thought.  He loves attention and would prefer to be by someone's side most of the time.  Often he'll just follow us around to see what we're doing, trying to sneak in and see if he can just lean against us.  Gene is very curious and has a puppy-like mischievous streak; he will need a lot of supervision, as he likes to counter-surf and chew on unsuspecting power cords.  Gene is sensitive to reprimands, so gentleness and patience with his puppy phase will be important.  He is very smart, but strong-willed, and isn't in love with his crate.  He's food motivated enough to be easily convinced to get in, though.  Except for some crying during the night, which seems to lessen day-by-day, Gene is a very quiet boy who will show you what he wants with his big wet nose or his adorable brown eyes. He'll need a lot of work walking on a leash as he's very strong and likes to pull.  For someone willing to give Gene patience and consistency the payoff will be huge. He's about as cute as they come, and we love having him in our home.

Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Rolo is a happy, friendly boy. He is a youngster and up for all kinds of fun. He'll need clear rules and guidelines so that he develops good manners. He did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Rolo is a real sweetheart, displaying his fun puppy energy from time to time. While he has never been left alone with our kitty, we prepared for the worst upon his first interaction, but he was (and still seems to be) afraid of her, running away from her when she stalks or pounces at him. Since he is still young, he is working on his “no” command as well as “leave it”. He walks wonderfully on a leash with our other two boys, and LOVES rawhides/bully sticks. He is not food aggressive at all, and gets along with our other dogs. He will compliment any household, and his forever home will be able to get a rare glimpse into the puppy life of a greyhound – FUN!

Clancy is a sweet boy, a bit insecure in new situations. He will quickly warm up to you once he gets to know you and understands his new routine. Clancy has an old injury to his left front humerus. It wasn't repaired and healed much shorter than normal. This caused his whole leg to end up shorter. A CD with his x-rays is being sent with him. He has been seen by an orthopedic surgeon and there is nothing surgical that can be done for him. He may appreciated some work with a chiropractor to help with his uneven gait- especially as he gets older. He did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Domino is a gentle boy, though he may prefer a quieter home. He tends to feel uncomfortable with too much activity. Domino will do best on a home that sets clear boundaries with proper guidance.  He did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Super C Bronson - Bronson ADOPTION PENDING
Red Male
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
Yes, with a VERY experienced handler
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Bronson is a happy, friendly boy. He can be a bit insecure, but his confidence will develop as he sees more things and meets more people. He did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Bronson gets along easily with everyone. He's a cuddle-bug, constantly nudging your hand or hip to get some attention. He gets along terrifically with our other greyhound and German shepherd. He's not real food motivated, just give him a big hug.  He does love going on walks, even in the snow, and wants to see everything going on and meet everyone.  Stairs have been no problem for him, and he goes right into his crate and sleeps through the night well.  I think he would enjoy any family, big or small, with other animals or kids.  He is so gentle and sweet and eager to just be loved. He has already learned to stay on command and sits very pretty, calmly waiting for dinner or to open the door and go out.  Overall, he's a wonderful dog, very mellow.

Foster Home Update 01/30: Bronson has shown a lot of interest in small dogs at meet & greet. If you feel Bronson is the dog for you, you must be experienced in working with a greyhound and small animals. This behavior should improve in time, but it will require more effort and the ability to segregate your small animals while not directly supervised.

Mustang Mars - Mars ADOPTION PENDING
Fawn Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Mars is outgoing and gregarious. He has a fun personality and will delight you with his antics. Mars did not test well with cats. Caution should be exercised with small animals.

Foster Home Update: Mars is such a friendly, fun loving big boy. He loves to be in the center of all activities, but will sit back and watch if he needs to. Stuffed animals are the greatest things in his eyes whether they squeak or not, they will be thrown into the air. He loves all the excitement of a busy household with teenagers; when it's just me with the pups, he lies at my feet with the other dogs. (Are we sure he's a retired racer?) He acts like home life is the most normal and natural thing. He loves to romp around in the back yard, We have had no issues with indoor marking or counter surfing, but then again he is so tall his whole head could rest on the counter and see everything. He will crate with encouragement, but prefers a pillow in the living room. He is a great leash walker and stays at your side with no problems or pulling.  Mars is wonderful, he is the ideal companion for anyone.

Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Jasmine is a sweet little girl, but has some trust issues. Once she settles into her home she should be delightful company. Being a young dog, everything is new and a tad scary for her. With patience Jasmine will blossom into a truly lovely little flower. Jasmine tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Jasmine is a sweet beautiful little girl.  She's very quiet and unassuming.  Every day is a new experience for her.  She's cautious at the unknown but eager to explore and learn.  She likes to take a new situation slowly.  She takes great delight in squeaking her squeaky toys and likes to have a stash of them in her bed with her.  She really enjoys to have a good chew on a bone.  She's started to tear around the back yard and then come galloping very proudly into the house with her tail wagging.  She has no problem on stairs or slippery floors.  She loves to go for a car ride and waits at the door to go.   Jasmine lives with three small dogs and loves being a part of her foster pack.  She loves to be praised and loved on.  She knows all about the cookie jar!  She's going to be a wonderful addition and companion for her new family.

Yes, with an experienced handler
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Barbie is a blank-slate, with no hang-ups or concerns for her previous life. She is willing and eager to move on to retirement. Barbie is energetic and eager to please. She will do best in a home with a large yard or active lifestyle. Barbie tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks. No outdoor cats for this one! Small dogs outside might be an issue as well.

Foster Home Update: This petite girl looks at the world with puppy eyes; everything is new to her, and it is all very exciting! She is gregarious and loves to make new friends. Barbie is smart and eager to please her people, making her very receptive to obedience training. She is already learning basic dog manners and will definitely be able to learn more advanced tricks. She is very food motivated, and considers everything food! She is great on car rides, and enjoys the wind in her face. Barbie is a person-centric cuddler, and can't wait to fill the open spot on your couch and in your heart!

Masked Liberty - Lillie
White/Red Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Lillie needs a VERY specific home. She has some fear issues and may become aggressive if she feels cornered. Given the right home, and correct handling, Lillie should come into her own and be a loving companion. Lillie requires a STRONG Alpha leader in her life. This should be a human, not another dog. She just needs to have someone to look to that she can learn to trust. She has proven to be ok with other dogs, but may regress if she is over stimulated. Lillie shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Lillie is an affectionate, intelligent girl who loves to play, eat, and get petted and scratched.  She absolutely loves squeaky (insert object names here).  She does well with our routine (one greyhound and one mixed breed), uses the dog door, sleeps in her crate at night, and is always ready for a ride in the car or a walk around the neighborhood.  Lillie is very much a morning dog; after her initial stretch, she grabs a toy and begins to play. Of course, being a greyhound, she is ready to nap after 10-15 minutes of toy tossing. She is very food motivated which has made training easy.  Lillie does not appreciate high energy dogs and shows that she is uncomfortable by growling and/or nipping.  She has done okay with calm dogs; such as foster Jax.  When she first came back to foster care, I kept her muzzled more often than not until she got used to being here and used to my leadership.  As mentioned before, she would benefit from strong, gentle leadership.  She is a fun dog and would do well as a well-loved only dog or in a home with low-key other dogs.  If you are interested in Lillie, her foster mom  would be more than willing to talk with you.

Alice has “corns” on her front feet which cause her some discomfort on hard surfaces. She should wear protective boots (Therapaws) when walked on hard surfaces for any length of time. Alice is a sweet, friendly girl, but she is somewhat insecure. She will warm up to you once she understands what is expected of her. Alice tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Age - 1
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Copper is a youngster with a sweet personality. She likes to play, and may even 'fetch' a bit. Copper has an endearing gentleness about her. She likes to get up to your level, but does not throw herself on you to do it. Copper has congenitally malformed elbows that do not cause her any problems right now. As she ages, she may develop arthritis. A CD of her x-rays and a CT scan that was done are being sent with her. She was evaluated by two orthopedic surgeons who did not feel that anything should be done for her surgically. Copper tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Copper is a happy, playful and loving girl. She LOVES to cuddle.  She took to regular potty breaks very quickly and learns fast...sit and lay-down are in her dictionary especially with a cookie or a belly-rub treat.  She is very curious, and not shy, wanting to be involved in all family activities especially play.  Copper likes the kids (ages 7 and 9) but she is still in the jumping-puppy stage and with her big puppy feet it is suggested to exercise caution with the wee children and wee dogs, as well as dominant larger dogs who might be irritated by her enthusiasm and zest for food and life! This girl is desperate to be loved and is so lovable, she will be a wonderful addition to a lucky person or family.

AHH Dahlia - Dahlia
Brindle Female
Age - 1-1/2
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

For such a young dog, Dahlia is much calmer than one would anticipate. As she becomes accustomed to her new life she may start to show more energy and exuberance. Dahlia had some trauma to her left front leg as a puppy. It has left a scar and caused her to have decreased range of motion in her carpus or wrist. It was not felt that anything could be done to improve her mobility, so she will have a limp for the rest of her life and may develop arthritis in that leg prematurely. Dahlia tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Dahlia has been a delight in our home! At first she was shy and very curious, but after a few days with our Red she has livened up considerably. She really enjoys our backyard and has fun running in circles trying to get Red to chase her, and doesn't seem to let her previous leg injury slow her down. She has only had a few accidents in the house, but most likely it was due to the snowstorm that we have had recently. She still has a few manners to work out as she still has trouble determining what is chewable and what is not, but she has finally taken a liking to a raw hide chew bone. On her walks she is still getting used to her surroundings and is hesitant a bit, but she is not difficult to walk with. During feeding time she makes sure to eat everything she has in her bowl, and then tries to eat Reds once she is finished, much to the displeasure of Red. She is kind, loving, and affectionate, and a pleasure to have in our home. After a few more weeks in our home, she will be much more relaxed and show her full personality.

Crown is a little doll. She seems to enjoy people and is looking for a family to love. Crown tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Crown; what an amazing girl!  She is full of life and personality and what a fantastic personality it is.  She's ready to take on the world.  She's very playful.  Loves her toys, walks, car rides, and to run around in the yard.  She will sleep in the crate but if she had her way, would prefer to sleep on her bed or cuddle beside you.  She loves everyone she meets and greets them with a wagging tail.  No insecurities. She currently lives with another foster Greyhound and three smaller dogs with no problem.  This girl will make a wonderful addition to any family with children or without.  Her ideal home would probably be an active one.  I can't say enough wonderful things about Crown. She'll be a wonderful addition to your family.

Red Female
Age - 8
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Cathy is a sweet girl that should happily fit in to most any home. Cathy tested well with cats, and has lived with them with no issues.

Foster Home Update: Cathy, what a sweet and easy going girl. Cathy is an 8 year old red female, she has a white face but her attitude and energy do not reflect her age. She has adapted well to our house without issue, she has no problems with different surfaces, and no problem with the stairs leading up to our house. She will let you know when she needs to go out and do her business. She is very good on the leash, no pulling, and she is always eager to go for a nice long walk. Cathy has plenty of soft toys, and loves to play with them in the back yard. She plays a version of fetch, as she will go and get a soft toy you throw for her, then run around like a maniac and drop it somewhere near you. She has NO interest in small animals, her previous home had 3 cats and 20+ birds, so she has no desire to chase, and she would do fine in a house with other small animals. She gets along fine with our Greyhound, and they have no problems sharing each others beds/toys/whatever.

USA Ingrid - Ingrid
Brindle Female
Age - 7
Cat Trainable-
NO

At the time of her dental, Ingrid lost most of her teeth due to severe periodontal disease. Ingrid is a sweet, friendly girl. She will “smile” at you with her empty gums. She has done well with using a dog door, but be sure to send her outside frequently and praise her when she “goes” outside. Watch her closely in the house initially as she can sometimes “mark” new areas. Ingrid shows a fair amount of interest in small animals and should not be trusted with them at this time. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Ingrid is the most well adjusted foster grey we have had to date. She follows directions very well, is extremely loving and friendly to both people and other dogs alike. We always use crates for our dogs and Ingrid loves her crate, sometimes it is hard to get her out when we get home. She eats very well for a dog with no teeth and has never once had an accident in the house. Ingrid will make a perfect addition to any household.

Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Page is a sassy little one with the ability to steal hearts at a glance. She can get a tad grouchy with other dogs if she is in a large group. Page would do best in a home where she is the center of attention or has a boy to boss around. Page tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Page has such a sweet and gentle nature. She seems pleased with her new life and wonders what pleasures it will bring her next. She is trusting and affectionate. She enjoys being close by but does so without being clingy. She readily explores on her own or lies down in another room if she isn’t interested in what we are doing.  She seems to be adjusting to living in a home quite readily and accepts things as they are.  She crates easily, does well with stairs and doesn’t mind commotion; we have a 4yr old daughter. She is uncomfortable with the cats, and feels tense if they get close. Introduction with cats will need to be done gently and slowly she should not be pressed into the relationship. Her food motivation is comparatively low so training will take patience, but she hasn't even tried to steal food off the counter! We will be working on basic manners such as sit, lay, leave it, and proper greetings.  She takes such great pleasure in every interaction with us that it shines in her eyes and flicks through her tail. If you have the chance to meet Page you will have to guard your heart or you just might lose it!

Fred just wants someone to love. He is a sweet older boy, but life has defeated him a bit. He will blossom in the right hands and with proper guidance. Fred has a rotated toe on his right hind foot that causes his nail to point up. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, so nothing was done for it. Fred did fairly well with the other greyhounds, but he can antagonize others in a group situation. He usually ends up the loser though. Be careful around small dogs until you see how he reacts to them.  He did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Cricket is a happy, friendly girl. She loves attention and loves to play. She will keep you entertained with her antics once she is settled in her new home. Cricket is perfectly happy to relax on her bed, or go for a jaunt. Cricket shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them.  If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Cricket is a sweet little girl who has learned all the house rules quickly. She even knows how to sit and wait before being told “ok’” to eat her food. Cricket is easy to crate when we leave the house and she has not had any accidents in the house. She loves to take out all the toys after you put them back in the basket and chewing on her bones. Cricket is a nice dog and will be a great addition to your family.

U Too Penny - Penny  ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Penny is a sweet little girl with a loving big heart! She is now looking for her forever home that she can share her love and kindness. Penny has also done well with crate training. Penny shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them.  If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Penny is a very sweet little girl, although somewhat reserved.  I like to think that she is waiting to show her amazing personality to her forever people. She's very food motivated, has only had two accidents in the house, both on throw rugs. She crates well, and sleeps through the night.  On sunny days, her favorite thing to do is go out and lie in the grass, soaking up the sunshine.  On the days without sunshine, you can find this 45 MPH girl stretched out on the big round doggie bed. She's learning her leash manners.  Penny is very resilient; she slipped on the dining room linoleum twice, but just shook it off and came back across it.  She ignores our Doxie, and socializes a little with our other Grey and our Belgian Malinois mix.  All in all, Penny is going to be a wonderful companion for her forever person.

UPDATE 08/10/11: What a great little dog Penny is! She is a happy girl who loves to play, by herself, or with the other dogs. Penny has wonderful house manners and a camel bladder. She's so wonderful I forget she's here!  Penny is curious and outgoing, and enjoys hanging with my grandchildren. She is an all-round cutie and would be great as both an only dog, or in a home with multiple dogs.

Decto Jaxtex - Jax  ADOPTED

Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Jax is a sweetie, but may appear a bit insecure. She is a young dog and just needs to experience life and know she is safe in her new situation. With patience she should settle nicely. Jax tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Jax did great in the car and settled right down for the 20-minute ride to her new foster home.  She didn’t feel like getting out of the car when she got home until we brought our other two greyhounds outside to meet her.  She was happy to see she wouldn’t be the only greyhound in the house.  We have two cats that Jax pretends not to see (“if I can’t see them, they can’t see me”).

Jax needs very gentle guidance as she can get her feelings hurt fairly easily.  She’s learning stairs and gets a 9.0 for being an attentive student, however, only a 2.5 for grace and form, but she’s motivated to practice! She’s beginning to learn her house manners and has been doing pretty well about going outside. There have been a few accidents, but I think that’s a combination of her young age, her reserved nature, and the fact she’s never lived in a house with freedom to roam.  She is coming around though!  She’s definitely food motivated so training should not be hard.

Even though reserved in posture, she just can’t control her tail. It’s a dead giveaway. Each day she is with us, that wag gets wider and wider and faster and faster.  Did I mention she SMILES?  She’s so happy to see someone when they’ve just come home from a few hours away -- those lips are peeled back in a big toothy grin.  She is just a super sweet girl and if we had room, she’d be a keeper for us!

Jax does show a bit of interest in the cats. It is more playful interest than prey interest. She should not go to a home with outdoor cats, as this may become difficult to manage in an outdoor setting. Inside she will back down with a sharp reprimand.

Claire's Ebony - Ebony ADOPTED
Red Female

Cat Trainable-
NO

Ebony is a happy, friendly girl. She likes to be with people. She has done well with crate training, but be sure to send her out frequently. She may be a bit noisy when crated as she adjusts to her new routine. This will resolve if you just give her time and don't give in to the whining. Watch her closely in the house initially as she won't know what's hers and what's not. Ebony shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Ebony is very gentle, social and curious. First evening at her new home she was a little nervous but after getting familiar with the surroundings she was fine. She slept through the night without disturbing anybody until one of us was up. She likes her food and being around people, she is good with kids. She was a little whiny when somebody left the house, but would settle down after a while. On the second day she felt like she was home, she was relaxed and willing to go outside even in the cold and snow. Steps were a little challenging at first, but after a few times 2-3 steps were not a problem. She is learning quickly and hasn't had any accidents so far. She is going to be very good companion.

AHH Taffy - Taffy   ADOPTED
Red Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Taffy is a youngster with a few reservations about her new life. She will come around quickly once she realizes what it is all about. Taffy shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Taffy is a delightfully fun young greyhound. She's a fast learner. Mastered the stairs, hardwood floors, and sleeping through the night on her first day! Her first night we had a children's party and she wasn't bothered by the noise or the small fast moving people. The kids practically pet the fur right off her that night.  She loves stuffies and has started to play with us and our other hounds. Taffy has the best ears! They helicopter all over the place - up, down, one up, one down.  She is a collector of stuffies and random clothes left on the floor. If you've lost something, it is on Taffy's bed. She's enjoying being part of a pack and family and is blossoming daily. She will make anyone's family a special place with her fun, happy, and welcoming ways.

Black Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Ryan is a huge hunk of a boy with a playful nature and a nice disposition. He is willing and eager to go along with just about anything. Ryan
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Ryan is a loving and curious 2 and a half year old. He is adjusting to his new life style quickly and learning new skills daily. He mastered stairs in a day. He now handles both inside carpeted stairs and outside opened-wood stairs with ease and grace. He has no problems with hardwood or tiled floors. His general house manners are good: no attempts to mark and no accidents. He and our other greyhound calmly wait outside the kitchen while their meals are prepared and then eat close to each other without incident.
He is a pleasure to walk. He holds his head high and stays by my side. He only sniffs and marks when given the "okay". Ryan handles long car rides and hotels without any problems. He also remains calm around small children and adults as they pet him.

Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Rudlynn is a sweet, friendly girl. She has an independent and quirky personality. She loves her stuffed animals! She tested well with cats, but has never lived with one. Caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Rudlynn (Lynn) came into our home like she had always lived here.  She is a very curious girl.  She loves to investigate everything.  Lynn is very outgoing; not a shy bone in her body.  She meets everyone with a wagging tail and gets very excited.  She is presently living with three small dogs and gets along great with them.  Lynn loves to go for a walk and does great on the lead; no pulling at all.  She loves to get out and observe the world, and does great in the car.  She has no problems with slippery floors, and sleeps in her crate at night.   She loves lots of attention and pets.  She loves to be active.   Lynn will be a fantastic addition to someone's family.  They'll be very lucky to get her!

Lee Keith - Zoo  ADOPTED
Fawn Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Zoo is a timid boy, but only because he is a bit unsure of himself in new situations. Once he
warms up he can be a real sweetie. Zoo shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update:  Zoo is a quiet boy who learned the ropes quickly. He mastered the dog door and the stairs between Saturday afternoon when I picked him up and Monday morning, which saved him from crate confinement when I had to go to work. He’s never marked or had an accident in the house, and he learned ‘stay out of the kitchen’ quickly.
He’s happy to see me come home from work, patient while waiting for dinner, and tolerant of those who would help him eat out of his bowl (a practice that is strongly discouraged!)
Zoo is a happy, easy boy. He’s not a jumper when I get home, though he is cautiously eager to have my attention during the ‘Hi, honey; I’m home’ period.
He’s a friendly boy once he gets to know you, without being demanding or pushy. He’s respectful without being fearful, a really nice combination in a greyhound. You couldn’t go wrong with this pretty, well-mannered boy.

Strawberry is a friendly girl with a fun zest for life. She will be your best friend if given the chance! Strawberry shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Strawberry is affectionate and loves to cuddle.  She is learning everything quickly and fitting right in with our noisy and musical teenagers.  She is now running up and down the stairs, and has found every stuffed animal and squeaky toy from the kids' toy box.  She is getting better about being in the crate at night.  At first she howled like a coyote when the lights went out and sounded like a foghorn when I got ready to leave, although we have yet to hear her bark.  She is quickly learning how to stay and come on command and knows her name really well.  She is always eager to go out for a walk or jog.  She has never had an accident in the house and goes right outside to do her business with no problems.  She seems real happy with our greyhound Pluto and the other dogs we meet on walks.  She is a special, spunky pooch!

Kaias Princeton - Princeton  ADOPTED
Fawn Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes
Our policy is to  reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, you will need to adopt a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable.

Princeton is a sweetie and every bit as handsome as his brothers, the other College Boys. He is young, so he may be a bit unsure at times. His confidence will increase as he grows more accustomed to life outside of a kennel environment. Princeton is brother to Harvard, Cornell, Barnard and Wellesley. He
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: What a sweet and easy-going fellow Princeton is. He has taken to every new thing without even blinking. Nothing seems to phase him. He showed the mildest reaction to the vacuum cleaner that I have ever seen. He doesn't mind the random abrupt noise and motion of our 4 year old.  He loves people and wants to meet every person he sees. He loves to be with his people and wants you close by.  He learned to go up and down the stairs with very little effort, but isn't totally comfortable with it. We have a tri-level so there is a lot of up and down.

When around the
cats, Princeton gets a bit excited and wants to go toward them. When the cat gives even the slightest growl, he turns away very quickly and avoids them. He is definitely not interested in a confrontation!  A house with dog savvy or bold cats would likely find it easy to cat train Princeton, if they follow recommended methods.

We have started on click training and he is already beginning to learn to
come, and we are working on walking without his leaning against me, or suddenly changing sides. He has not shown the slightest desire to do any marking, even outside in areas where other dogs have frequently been. He is a mellow boy that is happy to hang out and loves to see new things. All in all, Princeton is a tender soul who would be happiest in a home with a gentle pace and plenty of time with the family.

UPDATE 08/31: Princeton takes everything in his greyt big stride. He has been in and to parades, experienced fireworks several times; he doesn’t get worked up over new things and is easy to manage.  He loves to meet new people and has a very polite greeting. He likes to be with his people and loves to come with us. He does well in the car. He enjoys launching himself up and down our carpeted stairs and has done fine on other stairs and flooring. He is comfortable with the cats both inside and out. He wants to interact with them on an equal level, but respects their space when they don’t want him near.  Even unknown cats met on our walks are only given a friendly and curious look, but he is easily diverted.

He is naturally a submissive dog, and needs someone to be clearly in charge to feel comfortable with his position in life. When this need is met he is mellow, confident, relaxed, and playful.  He shows no desire to mark inside or out. He looks to be guided by those around him and would do well as a second dog. He is a big boy but is quite responsive to commands and directions.  He knows and responds to the following commands in varying degrees:  Come, Leave it, No, Wait, This way, Sit, Lay Down, Lay Flat, Take a Bow, Sphinx, Potty Time, Do your Business, Get up, On your Feet.  Offer him a tasty treat, and he will try and do all his tricks at once! Highly food motivated!

ES

What a sweet boy Chester is! He is as cute as he is sweet too! Chester should do well in most any home. He tested well with cats, but caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: I picked up Chester yesterday and he is wonderful! He has a very soft coat with some shining copper threads. He is so friendly and easy. It looks like he has accepted Salsa (my little dog) as a pack member- one small growl during Salsa's sniffathon-quickly told "NO" and of course he was wearing his muzzle. Since she doesn't see well anymore she goes over a new addition inch by inch with her nose. No accidents in the house with frequent trips outside- he let me know he had to go out today. He's resting in his open kennel with his new favorite toy- Mr. Squeakers- a toy pig with 14 squeakers inside. He thinks the refrigerator is the best thing he's ever seen but just looks when told no. He's so affectionate that he fell asleep standing up by the bed with his head by my pillow. Later he curled up on his own bed. He is one great guy.

Cayenne Twix - Twix ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Another adorable little girl! Twix is charming and delightful, but can be a bit unsure of herself in new situations. She responds well to reassurance, and will do fine once she develops a bit more confidence. Twix did well in cat testing but has never lived with a cat. Use the muzzle initially and be sure to supervise all interactions.

Foster Home Update: Hi, I'm Twix.  I'm a beautiful little brinde.  I'm very sweet and friendly, but shy.   I'm very reserved at first.  I'm feeling much more comfortable in my new foster home.  It takes me a while to settle in.  I don't really like loud noises.  Right now, I like a quiet home.  I like to sleep in my crate at night.  In the day, I like to sleep on my big bed in the living room.  I have not had any accidents in the house.  I'll cry just a little bit in the night if I need to go potty.  I'm just getting to know my foster doggie brothers and small sister.  I don't mind slippery floors.  I'm learning to be more comfortable on the lead.   I'm starting to explore my new house room by room.  Every day I'm becoming a little braver.    I'm very good in the car and know how to hop right in!  I'm a very quick learner.  I love to have rubs and lots of praise and reassurance.

Dewey Big Iron - Yuma ADOPTED

Cat Trainable-
Yes, with an experienced handler

Yuma, Yuma, Yuma…..such a love bug cutie! He is one boy that draws everyone’s attention and makes them smile. He is a very sweet and friendly guy that loves to be around people and will seek out your attention. Yuma did well with cat testing, but has never lived with a cat. Yuma has done well with the other greyhounds, but he doesn't like it when they harass him. Yuma seems to be a bit ambitious with play. He will need work in this area until his intensity decreases. He should not be allowed to play outdoors with small dogs, and is not recommended for a home with outdoor cats or very small children.

AHH Oreo - Oreo  ADOPTED
Black/White Male
Age - 15 months
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Oreo is the definition of sweet. This youngster is eager to learn and willing to please. He has not experienced much in his young life, with time and patience you will see his confidence develop and his true nature emerge.
Oreo did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Oreo is a very nice young dog. He has fit nicely in our home. My favorite Oreo quality is his loving nature. He is very affectionate and sweet. The first night we discovered he loves his kennel and sleep quietly all night. Introductions with the cat were interesting as he was too afraid to even walk past her. We showed Oreo there was nothing to fear and he is currently doing very well with the cat. Oreo is extremely tolerant of my children, ages 3 and 6. He may even like them. The first day he was trying to figure out how to get in the window to play with my 3 year old. This world is all new to Oreo, including those pesky windows. Oreo is a bit unsettled in new situations and needs to know his pack leader has everything under control and he can just focus on being a dog. Oreo has done okay with my greyhound. He isn't the best at sharing, again it is important to assure him you have it under control, and he too has to follow the rules. He is a very calm dog for his age. His manners are coming along nicely. Really, Oreo just wants someone to love.

ZD's Phantom - Phantom  ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Phantom is going to make someone very happy! He is patient and happy to go along with whatever you ask him to do. Phantom is eager to learn how to live the retired life. His coat is a bit rough looking right now, with some good groceries and regular brushing he will be sleek and shiny in no time.  Phantom
did NOT test well with cats, so a home without small animals is best.

Foster Home Update: Phantom is a good boy who wants to please you, even if he doesn't understand how. In the mere week he's been with us, he's learned to stay off the hardwood floors and navigate stairs with confidence. He hasn't tried to mark inside in several days, and appears to find comfort in our daily routine. Phantom needs consistent and firm reminders as to the rules, and he can be a bit stubborn (or forgetful - you pick). Best of all, he's slowly showing us some affection: tiny nose bumps, and hops, skips, and jumps when we come home from work. He enjoys running in the yard with our dog, but is happiest snoozing at our feet with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Phantom has a good heart, calm demeanor, and will make someone a very dedicated companion.

Thor's Hammer - Sam  ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Handsome Sam has a nice steady presence and a gentle disposition. He is confident and secure in himself and should be a great addition to most any home.
Sam did NOT test well with cats, so a home without small animals is best.

Foster Home Update: Wow, what can I say about Sam other than what a great guy. He has adapted to his retired urban life quite well. Living Downtown I was a little worried about all the sights, sounds and smells that would frighten this big boy but little did I know how brave Sam truly is. Buses and horse drawn carriages have no effect on him. People shopping in huge groups, he doesn't even flinch. We walked Sam though all the hustle and bustle of Downtown and I didn't even see his tail go between his legs once!
His first night home he didn't even try to mark. The belly band is dry as a bone! He is a little wary of the elevator and does ok on stairs unless they are really steep. He is good in his crate and sleeps thought the night. He doesn't willingly go to his crate though so you may have to use a little encouragement. He does have a bark that I have only heard when he has been left alone. Radio and small outings without him to show him we are not leaving forever are helping this. When we are home he is quiet as a mouse.
He has learned to respond to his name and we are working on "wait" and "easy". He walks well on his leash but he is a BIG boy so I'm trying to teach him easy just in case. He gets excited when he spots pigeons, squirrels and cats. He also showed REAL interest with small dogs. We are working on this. Bigger dog? Not a problem! His foster sister Maggie is up in his personal space all the time and never once has he growled or showed any signs of aggression. Not around food, water or beds! He doesn't even complain when she tries to herd him! So tolerant!
His clownish personality is coming out more and more every day. He LOVES to look at himself in the mirror! He has a fancy dance that he reserves for when he steals one of my favorite hats. I always catch him with it in his bed! He has a bad case of helicopter tail, which just makes it that much more fun to come home to him! And nothing is quite as cute as when he wakes up and sticks his tongue out at you.
Once he is fully acclimated to this new retired world he is going to be a great boy.

Smooth Trent - Smoothie ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Smoothie is an alert, friendly and sweet girl with adorable floppy ears.  She loves to be with people and receive attention. She can be a bit whiney in her crate at times, but this gets better as she gets used to the routine.  She has done well with crate training. Smoothie shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them.

Foster Home Update: We have been enjoying beautiful Smoothie for over a month now, and she just gets sweeter and sweeter.  She has quickly figured out what's okay or not okay, and how to stay and come.  She loves the squeaky toys and quickly goes into her crate at bedtime without whining.  She is a real cuddler and loves affection; great with older kids and all adults.  She can be a little short with a jumpy little dog.  Her favorite thing seems to be going on walks and runs; she prances around in a fun feminine way . She wants to explore and see everything, and gets quite excited with anything that moves like squirrels, lizards, bunnies, ducks, geese, etc.  We are just having a great time with her.  The right family can't help but fall in love with her like all of us have.

Mcredie Poo - Oprah  ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Another adorable little girl! Oprah is charming and delightful, but can be a bit unsure of herself in new situations. She responds well to reassurance, and will do fine once she develops a bit more confidence. Oprah did well in cat testing but has never lived with a cat. Use the muzzle initially and be sure to supervise all interactions. Don’t be too quick to trust her alone with the cats- she should be separated from the cats when you are not able to supervise them.

Foster Home Update: Oprah is doing really well and learns quickly.  Her leash-walking skills have greatly improved and she will even go potty when on the leash.  She has started to play with stuffed toys outside and she is so cute when she throws them around.  She doesn’t run too much, possibly because she wants to spend her energy doing cute inventive things outside and being a playful goofball.  Yesterday she was walking away from the rotary sprinkler just fast enough so it wouldn’t get her too wet, but not out of its reach, probably wondering why the rain was following her.  She is super affectionate, loves giving kisses and snuggling.  When we go upstairs to bed, she runs right into her crate and plays with her stuffed doughnut toy (with sprinkles) for a few minutes before quieting down for bedtime. Too cute!

Kaias Wellesley - Wellesley ADOPTED
Fawn Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Wellesley is a sweet, friendly girl. She is a young dog and lacks confidence in new situations. Getting her out to meet new people and see new things will help develop her confidence. She will “smile” when she feels nervous. This may look like snarling, but it is a submissive gesture and NOT aggression. Wellesley is sister to Harvard, Cornell, Princeton and Barnard. She did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Wellesley is very sweet, gentle and affectionate.  Great in the car.  Adapted right away to a new home setting.  Has already had exposure to five children under the age of 13.  Loves children.  Tail wages very excitedly.  Ate and drank great on her first night.  Slept great on her new bed.   No trouble with slippery floors.  My house is a rambler, but she did use the stairs for the deck no problem.  Loves to play with toys.  Loves to run and play in the grass and then flop down and feel the coolness of the grass.  TONS of personality.  And oh, by the way, did I tell you how beautiful she is??  Very precious.  My dogs and her have not really interacted yet.  She doesn't seem to pay much attention to them.  Great dog.  She will make a fantastic additional to a new home with children or without.

AHH Newman - Newman ADOPTED
Red Fawn Male
Age - 2 (in September)
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Newman is a happy, friendly boy with an energetic zest for life. He's still learning his manners, but he has a great desire to please. Newman did well with cat testing, but has never lived with a cat. Being a young dog, he will be inclined to chase the cats if they run. Be slow and careful with the introductions. Use the muzzle and strongly discourage any interest.

Foster Home Update: Newman is a friendly boy, with a sweet personality, that is very willing to please. He learns quickly - our kitchen is a "no dog zone" and he learned the "out" command within about 30 minutes. The car ride home was uneventful,  he laid down in the back of the car patiently. His first night was also uneventful - went out at 11:00 pm and only a bit of singing with our boys before settling in. He woke up bright and early at about 5:30 ready to go out, then came in again and relaxed until the rest of the gang got up around 8:00. He is a confident boy and would do well as an only dog, but does enjoy socializing with our boys. He is not afraid or timid of slick floors or the washing machine. He walks surprisingly well on a leash for being so young, and he is interested in all things that move. He did well with our cat, too, and was not very interested in her just sitting still and hissing at him, however, caution should be exercised if the cats are able to run - he will probably want to chase. He LOVES stuffies with squeakies - so fun!!! He has allowed himself to just relax in our home, laying out on the cushions in the living room; he seems to like to be around people, but he is not clingy or overly demanding of attention. Newman is a dream with a sweet personality and social disposition - he will be a true joy in his forever home!

2nd update 06/23: Just an update on the Newmanator: He is such a sweet dog with a big energetic personality! His current interests include playing with squeaky toys, playing fetch in the backyard (yes FETCHING!), eating, sunbathing, long walks through the neighborhood, sticking his tongue out (pictures to come), sleeping on his back with his tongue out (more pictures to come), and snacking on lint from the dryer trap.

Bee LOVES people! She will be your new best friend if you give her an opportunity. Bee is ready and willing to please and a gem of a girl. She is a bit older, but with age comes wisdom. Bee shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time. Bee did fairly well with the other greyhounds, but she can be a bit intense for large group situations. She is not a good candidate for dog parks or day care situations. Be careful around small dogs until you see how she reacts to them.

Foster Home Update: Bee is settling nicely into our routine.  She has claimed her space—not one of the beds, but a pile of blankets, sheets, and towels she constructs and rearranges in a corner of the living room.  At night, she sleeps in her crate, whining once or twice on principle before settling in.  Bee is up for all our activities—walking, playing in the backyard, riding in the car, meeting new people, munching on a turkey neck.  She has learned to use both doggie doors; the impetus her first time through being a squirrel alert in the backyard.  She gets very focused: after two days, she still goes to the place where she spotted squirrels in the neighbor’s yard and stares.  When she sees a small dog, she stares and whines, and it takes several reminders to redirect her attention.  She also plays fetch for minutes at a time, an unusual trait in a greyhound.  With her play/prey drive, she might have had a career as a drug sniffing dog.   Bee is very affectionate and likes to hide her head in my armpit when she’s in a cuddling mood.  She is still settling into the mealtime routine; she has been walking away from her food and trying to get into Cole’s bowl.  Being the smart girl she is, she will catch on to the rules eventually.  Bee is looking forward to an active retirement.  Her motto: “Play hard, sleep hard, love unconditionally.”

Carhew Tom - Tom ADOPTED
Fawn/White Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Tom is a striking boy with a nice pleasant disposition.  He is eager to please and should be an excellent companion. Tom did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Be slow and careful with the introductions. Use the muzzle and strongly discourage any interest.

Foster Home Update: Tom has been a pleasure to foster! Very sweet and affectionate! As a bonus he sleeps though the night in his crate. Most of my fosters whine the first couple nights and wake up at 4am like clock work.... Not Tom.  He waits quietly until it's time to wake up! He is still working on stairs, but will do them slowly with assistance and encouragement. Tom is still showing a decent amount of interest in the cats, but is learning to leave them alone and will back off with a "leave it" or "AYE". This morning when a cat walked by he looked at it and whined a little then looked at me but did not get up, so progress is being made but DO NOT trust him without his muzzle yet. We went on a walk yesterday and he really enjoyed it! Walked nicely on the leash. He does show a good amount of interest in small dogs as well, so watch out for this and discourage any interest by saying "leave it"  and making him break his stare. Potty training is going well, no accidents in the house, but there have been a couple of attempted markings. Tom is very receptive to verbal commands.

Holland Wiseguy - Carty ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Carty is the definition of sweet. He has a kind and gentle disposition and a willingness to learn. Carty is not great with non-greyhounds, if introductions are done slowly he should be fine with another large dog.
He should be fine as an only dog. Carty did NOT test well with cats, so a home without small animals is best.

Foster Home Update: Hi, my name is Carty. My foster family calls me "Carty Boy". I am looking for my own human family to love. I like long strolls in the park, or a short run with a friend. I do get a little excited when I see small dogs. My foster family tell me, "leave it and keep walking", so I lose interest. Many have said I have big beautiful teeth, and love to show them off with a big smile; it gets me a few extra cookies. Speaking of food, I love it! The more the better, especially turkey necks. I've learned some cool tricks. I can stay, lie down, and show my belly. I can sit, but I don't like to because my legs are too long so it feels funny. I don't play with toys too much,  though I may carry one around from room to room. My favorite is the Kong bone. I carry that around and every so often the humans fill it with peanut butter, OHHHH, that stuff is the best!

I love to be touched and rubbed, but if you are busy that is OK. I will wait for you to sit down, then here I come! I like the teenagers here, they play with me and love on me and bring their friends over to play with me too. I just discovered their hang out was right under my nose, that noisy room down the carpeted stairs leads me to them. I followed the other dogs down one day. WOW, it has a big mattress on the floor just for the pups. No wonder the pups go down there.  Just so ya know, I'm not perfect. I have had a few anxiety accidents in the house recently. I don't normally, but I get so excited when the family comes home, I just couldn't hold it. I don't mind being crated either, the family here calls it "my room". I willingly go in it and even nap in there with the door open when I want to be alone. I like to hang in the back yard too. I like to find a tall patch of grass to lie in and watch you do yard work. Oh, and I love the chasing game; you chase me - I chase you. That is a fun game! If you are interested in making me part of your family, or want to meet me, call "Royal Hounds". They can set up a date for us to meet! I can't wait for my own forever home!!

Firstofitskind - Kind ADOPTED
Fawn Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Kind is a good boy, he seems very eager to please and should do well in most homes. This handsome boy will surely be your new best friend! Kind did not do well with cat testing, so a home without them is best.

Foster Home Update: Our first night with Kind was the smoothest we ever had with a foster.  He is very well balanced who loves loves loves to play and he fit right in with our adopted Greyhound Allison.  He is really skinny right now but when he starts to pack on weight he is going to be one hunk of a man.  Kind loves walks and is friendly to all of our neighborhood dogs (and people).  He is not a big fan of being crated but slowly seems to be getting used to.  Kind never barks and will whine or noticeably pace when he needs to go outside for the bathroom.

Kaias Harvard - Harvard ADOPTED
Fawn Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Harvard is a pretty nice boy! He is easy on the eyes and relatively mellow. Harvard is young, so may be a bit unsure at times. His confidence will increase as he grows more accustomed to life outside of a kennel environment. Harvard is brother to Cornell, Princeton, Barnard and Wellesley. He
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Harvard is boisterous and has probably grabbed the spotlight since he was a pup.  He is friendly and outgoing and will come to anyone who wants to give him attention.  He wags his tail almost all the time.  He has been very good around the small dogs, mostly ignoring them completely.  He responds to commands like "leave it".  Both Harvard and Cornell are struggling with going up and down steps.  Cornell will master the stairs before his brother.  Harvard is a bit helpless still, especially going up.  It is quite funny that I have to pick up one foot and then another and coax him up.  He does not yet understand or trust his back feet!  Harvard has whined off and on during the night these first two nights.  The foster dogs sleep in their crates in the kitchen and Harvard has done better with the radio on to keep him company.  I think he will do much better once he is allowed to sleep upstairs and be a full member of a family.  He is very loving and wants companionship and affection more then anything.  He will make a wonderful companion and his love will be boundless.

Yes

Cornell is a handsome boy with a nice temperament. He is young, so may be a bit unsure at times. His confidence will increase as he grows more accustomed to life outside of a kennel environment. Cornell is brother to Harvard, Princeton, Barnard and Wellesley. He
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Cornell has probably been in the shadow of his big brother Harvard for his whole life, so I want to write about him first.  He is an angel!  Cornell is quiet, sleeps through the whole night and does not complain about anything.  He wanders around exploring and curious.  He is eager to please and will "leave it" when told.  He is interested in the small dogs but only in a very limited way...he has been very gentle and just sniffs them and only if they are not paying attention to him.  I think he is genuinely curious about them.  He loves to play and will perk up his ears when Harvard joins him in the yard.  They romp around like big puppies and their love for each other is clear.  They have a wonderful bond and clearly have been very lucky greyhounds to spend their lives together so far.  Cornell responds very well to affection and to the sound of a gentle voice.  He has beautiful eyes and will make an amazing companion to a loving human.

Kaias Barnard - Barnard ADOPTED
Fawn Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Barnard is a sweet, friendly girl. She is young, so may be a bit unsure at times. Her confidence will increase as she grows more accustomed to life outside of a kennel environment. Barnard is sister to Harvard, Cornell, Princeton and Wellesley. She
did well with cat testing, but has not lived with a cat. Caution should be exercised initially and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Barnard seems to lie down when you tell her to and loves chasing toys; even a dog Frisbee. She can climb stairs and go down them too. She was whining at the cats through their enclosure when we were outside. Fear not, they are both wearing muzzles inside because of the cats & outside while gallivanting around. The cats are keeping their distance...

Bart's Mystery - Meg ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Meg is a lovely girl who enjoys hanging out with people. She is pretty secure in herself and should fit easily into most homes. Meg shows a lot of interest in cats and other small animals and should not be trusted with them. If this behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, it may improve in time.

Foster Home Update: Don't be deceived by sweet Meg's big brown eyes and elfin appearance. Behind that adorable expression is one feisty personality! Meg quickly realized that the retired life is for her. After finding the first dog bed, Meg found she could make herself much more comfortable by scratching it all up and nesting herself into pure bliss. Outside, she's much the same, rolling and lolling around in the grass, enjoying the good life!

Meg hasn't had any accidents in the house and she has no fear of our hardwoods. She mastered the stairs in just a couple of days and looks at every new experience as an exciting adventure. Now that she's discovered how great life is, she's testing her limits and finding out just how much she can get away with (answer: not as much as she'd like). As per the rest of her personality, Meg is an enthusiastic eater and should be easily motivated to learn the correct way of expressing all her new found joy. Meg would be a great addition to any loving, no-cat home.

Amy Winehouse - Vivian ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Vivian has an old hock fracture in her right hind leg. This is a common racing injury. It has healed reasonably well and should be fine for normal “pet” activities, but she should not be encouraged to exercise excessively. Vivian is very sweet and wants to please. She has lots of energy, but she settles down nicely once she gets used to things. She does like to steal both clean and dirty laundry. She tends to urinate in her crate if crated, but has done well with a dog door. Watch her closely in the house at first. Vivian did well in cat testing but has never lived with a cat. Use the muzzle initially and be sure to supervise all interactions. Don’t be too quick to trust her alone with the cats- she should be separated from the cats when you are not able to supervise them. Vivian is outstanding with well-behaved youngsters.

Foster Home Update:

AHH Royal - Royal ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
Yes

Royal is a pretty little thing, with an endearing quality about her. She may need reassurance in new situations, but will come around quickly. Royal did well in cat testing but has never lived with a cat. Use the muzzle initially and be sure to supervise all interactions. Don’t be too quick to trust her alone with the cats- she should be separated from the cats when you are not able to supervise them.

Foster Home Update: Royal has been a true joy to have in our home. We did introductions with the rest of our family, including our two daughters (3 and 6), our greyhound, and our cat. She has very little interest in the cat, however, we continue to muzzle and monitor her. She is doing great with our children. She was a bit unsure of our youngest at first. Our youngest is well mannered with animals, but she can be loud and unpredictable at times. Royal just walks away if she feels unsure. She is beginning to trust more and learning nothing bad is going to happen. She is getting along wonderfully with our Greyhound. They seem to enjoy one another, running and playing in the yard. Royal is a master at house rules. She tried to counter surf once. We said "NO" and she never tried again. She tried barking at our neighbors. We said "NO" and she never tired it again. She has learned what rooms she can and can't go in. She has even learned what area of the yard is for  "going potty". Royal has never had an accident in the house. She loves her kennel and sleeps all night. She also loves people. She loves to cuddle and give "hugs" and mini kisses. Outside she enjoys rolling in the grass and playing with whatever toys the kids leave out. Royal is eager to please and wants to make a lucky family very happy.
