A word on Cat Trainable Dogs - Dogs that are deemed 'cat-trainable' have been tested to see how they react to cats, however, this does not mean they will do fine with cats immediately. We always suggest a cautious introduction as well as continued training to help insure a healthy and safe relationship between your new greyhound and your small household pets. We use the term 'cat-trainable', rather than 'cat-safe' so you are not lured into a false sense of security. We want you to be prepared for some amount of work with introductions.  We will provide you with the necessary tools and education to ease the introduction between your new pet and your existing pets.

We do ask that you help us reserve the cat-trainable dogs for those homes that truly require them. If you have no small animals, please consider adopting a dog that is not deemed small animal trainable ... these dogs need homes too, and since so many people have small animals, there are always a multitude of them waiting somewhere in the system.

New dogs are coming August 21st!
Get your
application in if you would like one selected just for your home! If you are unable to adopt, but would like to help out please consider fostering or helping us promote adoption at our Meet & Greet's.

Please contact us if you are interested in adopting or fostering a greyhound.

Boys
SHK Mulligan - Mulligan  Foster Dog of the Month
Brindle Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Mulligan is a nice steady boy with a bit of a playful personality. He is always happy to see you and eager to face the day. Mulligan tested well with cats, but caution should be exercised upon initial introductions and in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: Mulligan did not want to jump into the GUV, (Greyhound Utility Vehicle), so I lifted his front feet, then arm between the rear legs and in he went. He lay down for the entire trip home after we got going.  The first day, he would not lay on the big Costco bed, but on the floor. Same all night. The next afternoon, he found out the beds were comfy, and slept on one the second night. He loves to be hugged, and petted. It takes awhile for him to gain his confidence. Mulligan wanted to go out at 5 AM. (Turn out time in Colorado). He barked at something, maybe a squirrel. He is very quiet in the home, learning to be relaxed, he is still not confident, but slowly getting better.  He will need work on stairs, the one step from the family room to the dining room bugs him at times. Mulligan is a big sweet boy, and love able. He will be the perfect Grey in some ones home. Wish it was ours, however, four Grey's has to be enough.

Mustang Kansas - Kansas
Black Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Kansas is a nice easy boy. He seems older than his years and is always happy to just go with the flow. Kansas did NOT test well with cats, so a home without them is advised.

Foster Home Update: Kansas is a sweet, shy boy who is gaining confidence every day.  On Day One, he impressed us with his healthy appetite and confidence on hardwood floors.  On Day Two, we were charmed with his kisses on our hands and face as he became more relaxed around us.  Day Three was a big day!  First there was the momentous occasion of his first going up and down the stairs unassisted (he's still working on the best way to move his rear feet). But more importantly it was the first day of NOT trying to mark in the house!  Hooray!  Day Four showed us that his easy-going manner extends to walks on the leash.  Every day Kansas is realizing more and more how to be the perfect greyhound pet.  Every night he basks in the glow of his accomplishments by cockroaching in his crate.  Kansas would love to prove to YOU just how greyt he can be!

Bell Of The West - Frankie
Brindle Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Frankie seems eager to please and wants to be your new best friend. He is a happy boy with a nice easy personality, not too pushy, but willing to engage. Frankie tested well with cats and should do fine in most any suitable home, though a home with a dog door or someone home a lot will be best for him. Frankie would benefit from canine companionship in his new home, preferably a nice confident dog.

Foster Home Update: Frankie is an incredibly loving, tolerant, and gentle dog. From the moment we meet he just wanted to be loved. During the ride home he did very well. A little panting, then he found a comfy spot and laid down. When we arrived home, we went through proper introductions. Frankie met our two small children, greyhound and cranky cat. He was initially quite interested in the cat but is calming down nicely. He has really taken to my youngest daughter, he follows her around the house. He also seems to enjoy when she lays with him. Potty training is coming along nicely, though he needs to be let out often. He is very smart and is sure to be a potty pro in no time. He has already learned to sit and lay down. Frankie just wants to please his humans. He will make a great addition to a lucky family.

Mario Chompers- Little Joe
Black Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Little Joe is a sweetie with an engaging personality! He just wants to make you happy and will patiently wait for your smile or sign of approval. Joe tested well with cats, but caution should be exercised upon introduction and in the initial weeks.

Foster Home Update:

Garet Alder - Gavin
Brindle Male
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Gavin is the star of any show, he is the definition of adorable and truly a nice dog! With his fun and social attitude Gavin is a greyt ambassador for the breed! Gavin tested well with cats and we expect he will do just fine in most any setting.

Foster Home Update: What a sweet, sweet boy! A family dog for sure. He is super easy going, quickly responding to leave it and no. Gavin has not shown any interest in the cats at all, could really care less about them. He has also been doing well with my pack, 2 greyhounds and a lab. When he first met Molly the lab he was very intrigued by this funny looking greyhound but since then could care less about my pack. He seems more into doing his own thing right now. Gavin loves people, getting loves and giving kisses! He has one of the happiest tails I have seen, wags all of the time! He has discovered that he loves the dog beds. I have three Costco size put together and he lays completely stretched out on his back with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. Silly boy! Gavin is still struggling with stairs, but I am sure he will get the hang of it soon! It will be a joy to watch him break out of his shell and learn to be a pet. I think he has an inner clown that's waiting to come out! Gavin is a truly good boy that will bring lots of joy and laughter to a family.

Escapade - Jack
Brindle Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
YES/NO, Jack will need someone experienced if he is to live with cats.

Jack is a sweet, friendly boy. He may seem a bit reserved at first, but he warms up once he gets to know you. Taking him out to see new things and meet new people will help develop his confidence. This handsome boy tested fine with cats the first TWO times he was tested, but the third try he did not do well. If you know what you are doing, and do it carefully, Jack might be able to live with cats in time.

Foster Home Update: Jack is doing great. Definitely loves having other greyhounds with him. He flops on the floor, pounces at his toys (stuffed animals) and, as we are finding out, is highly food motivated. He actually loves going to see the ducks and chickens, He watches them and then gets all goofy but isn’t showing any signs of attacking or real interest, more curiosity. He is taking shoes and things that belong to us when we are not around but that is not uncommon and was expected. No chewing of furniture, just a  house littered with toys.  We took him for a walk this afternoon on his harness and he did great. Only near the end did he stop for a few moments and then went on. I think a few more weeks of routine and walks and he’ll be just fine. He’s a great, sweet, loving, affectionate boy who is going to make a family very happy.

Steffies Goldboy - Gold  ADOPTION PENDING
Brindle Male
Age - 6
Cat Trainable-
YES

Gold is a sturdy boy with a friendly nature. He loves people, and ADORES toys, but is a bit socially inept with other dogs. He isn't aggressive, but definitely wants to present himself as the Alpha boy in the house. He kind of just struts around with his chest puffed out, but it doesn't go any further than that. We expect him to settle down a bit once his hormones have leveled out. Gold tested well with cats, but has not lived with them so caution should be exercised. His personality indicates that he should be fine with children.

Foster Home Update: Gold is absolutely golden!!! I have never had a greyhound so willing to dive into all the goodies of home life as Gold. Ground turkey mixed with my dry food-Yum Yum More! Soft beds- Aaaahhhh! Hugs, pets, and kisses- Mmmmmm- more! Running in and out- Wheee! Stuffies everywhere- Oh Boy! He is unfazed by stairs, hardwood floors and doors. He wants to smell everything and backs away from the "forbidden" like the butter dish with a firm no. He tried once to mark the dining room table but stopped right away when told no. When he met my little dog Salsa she was on the top step and he was on the ground so they were eye to eye. Salsa looked him in the eye and snorted her distain and Gold got the picture- Salsa goes through the door first and sleeps on the bed- OK. He is sweet, smart, and loving. He's already wagging his tail and prancing with joy. Here's a quirky little side light. Salsa usually eats in the kitchen and the greyhounds eat in the dining room however Salsa insists on having her food bowl right next to Gold's and they eat together. There's a very lucky person with a space in their heart just waiting for wonderful Gold to step in.

Girls
Ruff Ruff & Zora SPECIAL NEEDS (need to be placed together)
Blue Brindle Female & Red/White female
Age - 10 and 8
Cat Trainable-
YES

We are determined to find a home for these two lovely senior girls. They are both still in Colorado, but can be here on our next load in August if the right home comes forward. The girls MUST remain together and would ideally be adopted into a home with another greyhound, or the intention of getting one as Ruff Ruff gets older. Both girls are very sweet, but somewhat lacking in confidence, Zora more so than Ruff. They are said to have lived in a home with numerous small furry creatures, cats included, so should do fine with cats as long as introductions are done correctly and they are watched as they become more confident in their new home. Both girls have excellent house manners and will use a dog door if one is provided. It is thought that they did not get out much in their previous home as they are a bit uncertain of what is expected of them when placed on lead. They ended up back in the adoption program because their owner passed away.

Ruff Ruff does have a touch of Pannus and will likely require medicated eye drops for the duration of her life. Pannus is believed to improve at lower elevations, so there may be positive signs once she is relocated. The medication is relatively inexpensive and she will come with a small supply.

These two gorgeous sweeties deserve a loving home for their golden years! Due to their special circumstances Royal Hounds is prepared to offer a two-for-one adoption fee.

KCON Shiraz - Norma
Brindle Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Norma is a sweet, friendly girl.  She may be a bit hesitant at first, but she warms up once she gets to know you. Taking her out to see things and meet new people will help develop her confidence. Be sure she wears a correctly fitted martingale collar so she can’t escape if she gets startled.  Norma had a bilateral tibial malleolar fracture in her right hind leg. It was repaired with screws and wires, but these have now been removed.  She should do very well and shouldn’t have any exercise limitations at this time. She did NOT test well with cats, so a home without them is advised.

Foster Home Update:

E's Sweet Barbie - Demi
Brindle Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

This stunner is sure to catch the eye of everyone that passes by! With her pretty face, athletic physique, and engaging disposition Demi is a winner in every category. Demi tested well with cats and should be fine with proper introductions.

Foster Home Update: What can I say about this Beautiful Girl! Her stunning good looks, her happy go lucky attitude, her willingness to be by your side .... those are just a few of the perks that you will get when you adopt Demi. She has a great appetite and has had no accidents in the house. The hard wood floors, not a problem for this girl! One word of caution, stay clear of that HAPPY TAIL, it is always in motion. She does still pull on lead a bit when we go for walks, but we are working on that, she will soon learn to walk gracefully at your side. Demi is looking for the right Forever home to give her heart to! Are you that loving , caring, patient, forever home?

Flo Nightingale - Flo
White/Brindle Female
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
YES

Flo is looking for a home to call her own, ideally one with a soft bed and a kind hand. She has a nice even temperament and should fit into most any low-key home. Flo has limited mobility in one of her front legs and will do best with a quieter home and a lower activity level. She tested well with cats and should do just fine with them as long as they are properly introduced and caution is exercised in the first few weeks.

Foster Home Update: This was the hardest bio I've had to write to date. There are so many wonderful thing about Flo I didn't know where to begin. Honestly, she is like a puppy with manners.

A simple phrase to describe this beautiful, sweet little girl is, "Go with the Flo". She is easy going and friendly. Loves to be touched and brushed. Follows along with the pack. Get excited and dances around when she sees new things or people. She loves playing and chasing the kids, Hide-n -Seek seems to be her favorite game. Coby takes Flo out in the yard to run a few laps but Flo would rather trot around after my son. She loves the older kids around the house and neighborhood, I think she feeds off their energy. Flo enjoys short walks and gets bouncy when see or hears the leash. Her tail is constantly spinning, ready for take off. She has had no accidents in the house, and knows several commands, sits and stays when told and even recognized "ah- ah".  Doesn't seem to be effected by small creatures, a squirrel sat under a bird feeder eating and Flo just stretched out in the sun like it was nothing. The first few days she slept on the floor in whatever room we were in ignoring all pillows, with a little coaxing she laid on one, no more floor for her. She makes this "Ahhhhh" noise when she lays down now. It is the sweetest thing! Her ears spring up when hears a squeaky toy but won't quite play with them yet. I'm sure in time that will change. She's not very food motivated either, but occasional will eat a tuna pop.

From day one, Flo has been the most relaxed, fun loving foster we have had. She will make a great addition to any family.

Rainyday Spider - Rainy
Black Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Rainy is a nice girl and could easily be an only dog, but she will need a good leader so she understands that life is good. She does tend to be a tad bit possessive about what is hers. This will improve if her new family works with her. Rainy likes toys and enjoys people as well. She tested well with cats, but has not lived with them so caution should be exercised initially. Older, quieter, children should be fine for Rainy.

Foster Home Update:

Sugarfree Laurel - Laurel
Black Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Laurel is CUTE! She is not the most secure girl so will need a confident leader in her home so she can blossom into the dog she was meant to be. She is sweet, that is for sure, and will be happiest in a home with good structure. Laurel tested well with cats, but should be watched as her confidence improves.

Foster Home Update: Laurel is one of the sweetest greyhounds I have known.  She understands that she is not alpha, loves to be around people, and will climb right into your lap and snuggle if you let her.  She’s mastered the stairs, hasn’t had any accidents in the house, and has a lot of puppy in her still - playing with a ball in the backyard is very entertaining business for her.  After a whack from one of the cats, she knows it’s best if she avoids them altogether.  Belly rubs are her favorite thing and we often find her lying on her back, feet up in the air, and her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth – what a goofball!

Fleeting Moments - Sue  ADOPTION PENDING
White/Black Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
NO

Sue is still learning about the good things in life and is a bit hesitant. She may take some time to come into her own, but we have faith that she definitely will once she understands that life is good. Sue did NOT test well with cats, so a home without them is advised.

Foster Home Update:

Lemieux - Molly  ADOPTION PENDING
Fawn Female
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Molly is as cute as a button! She is still a bit young and may have a difficult time understanding what you want of her, which causes her to go into a submissive little dance, ending up on her back with her belly up in the air. As her confidence grows we expect her to mature into a wonderful dog. Molly tested just fine with cats, but caution should be exercised as she becomes more secure in her home.

Foster Home Update:

AHH Brandy - Brandy  ADOPTED
White/Red Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES, with an experienced hand

Brandy has a nice even disposition with a bit of a playful streak. She tends to prefer human companionship over that of other dogs, but might be fine with a respectful canine companion. She tested well with cats initially, but has shown some interest on walks and outdoors, so extreme caution should be exercised with small animals. Once she understands that the cats are off limits she should do fine.

Foster Home Update:

GS Bailey - Bailey ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 6
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bailey is a nice, calm girl with a sweet disposition. She is willing to do whatever is requested of her, but is also happy to simply hang out on her bed all day. If you are looking for a nice calm companion Bailey might just be your girl. She should be an easy addition to most any home. Cats and kids should be fine if properly introduced and monitored.

Foster Home Update: Bailey is showing her playful, fun-loving side.  She enjoys flinging stuffies into the air and chasing after and chewing on big rubber balls in the backyard, running some laps, and even enticed Cole into a play bow.  She has been learning the house rules and routines quickly, responds to gentle correction, and uses the dog doors to go in and out.  Bailey is excellent on the leash and has done really well on our pack walks.  She goes into the crate without complaint, using it at times for a retreat, and sleeps throughout the night.  She tends to eat some of her food, wander away, and then return; she loves to drink lots of water--no accidents in the house though, hooray!  Although Bailey is willing to spend time outside when I'm working in the yard, she prefers being a bed diva.  She has been unfazed by Thunder's barking at her when he thinks she's not doing the right thing and ignored the small dog next door when he came up to the fence to visit.  Bailey has a lovely voice and has initiated a couple of rooing sessions with the boys.  She has been an easy addition to the household and will make an affectionate addition to her forever home.

AHH Sadie - Sadie  ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 3-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Sadie was in a home in Colorado, it is assumed she was in that home from the time she was a puppy as she has no ear tattoo's. Sadie was moved outdoors due to allergies, a neighbor contacted Almost Home for Hounds and asked that they step in. She is very calm and quiet and has nice house manners, she gets along well with other dogs and is used to a dog door. Sadie should be fine with cats and other dogs, children should pose no problem for her either.

Foster Home Update: Sadie is doing well. She is a shy girlie who perked up for a few seconds when she met my 5 year old daughter Madison. I think once she settles in and relaxes she will be a gem. She does have an interest in my big fluffy orange cat Rosie and Rosie has sensed that I think and keeps a safe distance. I've discouraged any looks towards Rosie and I think Sadie will be just fine around cats. Sadie and Billy don't seem to pay much attention to one another and give each other plenty of space. Potty training is going well, I've been letting her and Billy out a lot, she doesn't seem to happy about having to go pee in the rain. She loves jumping on my bed for a nap so I am working on showing her how comfy a dog bed can be. She doesn't mind the kennel and seems to be a easy go lucky girl. I am looking forward to seeing her come out of her shell.

Aintnothinboutu - Bouters   ADOPTED
White/Red Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bouters is as sweet as they come. She has just the right amount of energy and is eager to worm her way into your heart. Bouters tested well with cats and should do fine in most any suitable home.

Foster Home Update: Sweet, Charming, Huggable, Calm, Very Curious, and Go With the Flow all describe this beautiful little girl. Bouters has had no problems with the hardwood floors, has a great appetite, goes to the back door to let you know its time to go Potty! Has had No Accidents. She has found the basket full of squeaky toys and enjoys playing with them until she can't squeak anymore. We have gone on multiple walks, and she does Very Good on a lead. She is a little Shy around loud noises, but will do just fine after she gets accustomed to her new surroundings. Bouters has the sweetest little smile when she gets excited, and those brown eyes! They will melt your heart away! Do You have it in Your heart to give this little girl her Forever Home?

Hammerlane Wayne - Brutus  ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 5-3/4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Brutus is SUPER handsome with a very luxurious black coat and loads of  white on his chest, neck and legs. He was a bit aloof when he arrived at the facility in CO, but has since bloomed into a super friendly boy. He may be a bit reserved upon initial introductions to his new people, but we fully anticipate him turning quickly into the happy boy we all know and love. Brutus did NOT test well with cats, but might be ok with a small dog if cautious introductions are employed. Older, well-mannered, children should be fine.

Foster Home Update: Brutus is a very loving pup. He did really well when introduced to Dude and Coby, Willingly follows along with everything they do. Brutus runs around the yard and plays with kids, chasing the squeaky toy. He doesn't bark except at the neighbor cat who dared walk along our fence. No accidents in the house, we whines when he needs to go out. He did really well on leash, just needs to learn he doesn't need to be one with your leg. Brutus willingly went in his crate. The first night no one got any sleep. Our spare bedroom is the Pups room, Dude and Coby left the room due to the constant whining. But the second night went greyt, All 3 dogs sleep together with no problems.

Overall, Brutus is a wonderful, playful Pup. He loves treats and will do anything to get one, even roll on his back to show you his belly. He will make a greyt addition to any family.

Regall Raetruda - Raetruda ADOPTED

Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Raetruda is a confident, outgoing sort of girl with a lovely zest for life. She will be a fine companion for most anyone looking for a loving pet. Raetruda did NOT test well with cats so would do best in a home without small animals, though she should be fine with smaller dogs if properly introduced. Her personality indicates that she should be fine with well-mannered children.

Foster Home Update:

Busty Babe - Beth ADOPTED
Red Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
NO

Beth if full of life and up for anything! This cute little girl will steal your heart, and maybe your slippers too! Beth did NOT test well with cats, so would do best in a home without small animals.

Foster Home Update: Beth is a sweet girl who is excited to see everything retired life has to offer. She loves to put her head on your lap so she can be loved and petted. She has been learning the house rules, but will sometimes get excited and forget them for a moment. Beth is learning to walk on a leash, and she does get excited and pulls so it may be best to use a harness when walking her while she is learning.  She hasn't had any accidents in the house. Beth is very, VERY, interested in small animals, but gets along wonderfully with our greyhound. Beth will be a great and worth-while addition to a home with strong leaders.

PK's Tuff Freak - PK  ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

PK has a nice easy nature, she seems to just go along nicely with whatever is offered at the moment. PK will appreciate a more settled environment and a cozy bed by the fireplace. She does not seem like the sort of dog that will want to go constantly, some nice walks now and then might suit her subtle personality just fine. PK tested well with cats and should be fine if properly introduced.

Foster Home Update:

Hereto Tellatale - Telly  ADOPTED
White/Black Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Telly is VERY cute and will steal hearts everywhere she goes. Mostly white, she is a strikingly pretty little girl with a quiet demeanor and a soft nature. Telly seems like she might prefer a more laid back style of living, appreciating all that retired life has to offer, just give her a soft bed and a gentle hand and she will be yours. Telly tested well with cats and should do fine if introduced properly.

Foster Home Update:

AHH Bryce - Bryce  ADOPTED
Brindle Male
Age - 1-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Sweet is the best word to describe this cute little guy. His tail is always in happy mode and he doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. Bryce is happy to say hello to anyone, but not pushy about it at all. He seems to take things in stride and just sort of goes with the flow. Bryce is young, but he seems more like an old soul as he is pretty laid back for his age. This adorable boy tested well with cats and should do fine in most any suitable home.

Foster Home Update: Bryce is the EASIEST dog I have ever had in my life, AND HES A PUPPY! He could care less about the cats, hard wood floors don't phase him, he already figured out the dog door and uses it to go potty, he slept silently in the kennel for a good 8 hours, he isn't overly pushy, but loves attention! This LOW MAINTENANCE puppy is going to turn into a very well behaved, easy, quiet dog! I question his age, he seems much more mature than he actually is!

Pat C Draw - Draw ADOPTED
Red Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Draw is a handsome boy! He is sweet and affectionate, with plenty of love to offer. Draw would be fine as an only dog, but also appreciates the companionship of another canine. He is happiest when he knows someone is leading the pack so he can relax into his retirement securely. Draw showed a fair amount of interest in cats when he was tested so we do not recommend him for a home with small animals.

Foster Home Update 04/12/10: If it was only possible for us to own two dogs! Draw has been a wonderful addition to our household. He gets along great with our female, his laid back attitude balancing her sassy enthusiasm. Retirement and a stable home life have mellowed this golden boy considerably. While leashed, he greets all calm dogs with a friendly sniff. He has shown no aggression in our household whatsoever, only baring his teeth in play. He is satisfied with backyard exercise, and is happiest sleep-running on his pillow or licking your pants in affection. A loving and firm environment for Draw will continue to reinforce all his recent progress, and continue to develop his wonderful goofy personality. Draw has never had an accident or marked in our house, and is open to being crated. Open your heart to this floppy-eared dog and you won’t regret it. His wacky play dance is not to be missed!

AHH Wasabi - Wasabi ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Wasabi is a quiet boy, but playful at times, he seems more serious than his age would imply and might appreciate a home with like qualities. Wasabi gets along well with other dogs and is not at all pushy. He tested well with cats and should be fine with either cats or small well-behaved dogs. Older, quieter children would be fine.

Foster Home Update: Wasabi is a wonderful boy. He is very sweet and soft. He and May get along great. They enjoy being outside together and having crates right next to each other. Wasabi doesn't seem to care about the cats, he just ignores them or sniffs and walks away. A little shy with hard wood floors at first he is catching on fast with May teaching him the ropes. We took our first trip to a pet store and he did amazing. With people and dogs coming up to him he just stood there and enjoyed the attention. He was even so soft and sweet we gave out a business card. He will make a wonderful loving boy for anyone.

Jack's Isabella - Bella ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bella is a pretty little girl with a charming nature and willingness to please. She is happy to go along with whatever life hands her and will be an easy addition to most any suitable home. Bella tested well with cats, well-mannered children should be no problem for her either
. Bella has an old racing injury that will not affect her as a pet, unless you are looking for a jogging partner.

Foster Home Update: Bella is a very lovable girl. She is not at all shy, loves people and is also very playful. Bella seems to have a fascination with rugs. She managed to drag all the rugs out of our hallway, but then left them alone when corrected. So far we have not had any accidents in the house with her. Unlike our previous fosters that have slept at the foot of my bed, Bella has chosen to sleep as close to me as she can. She prefers being on the couch and may be better in a home that allows animals on furniture, though she is smart and could learn that couches are off limits. Bella is a great dog and will quickly become a loving edition to any home.

Skidbootsahoot - Skid ADOPTED
White/Black Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

This tall, striking boy has a nice even temperament  to match his good looks. He is charming and outgoing, always happy to do whatever is requested of him. This boy should be an easy addition to most any home. Skid tested well with cats, but caution should be exercised initially. Small dogs and well-mannered children should be no problem for him.

Foster Home Update: I have to say my first impression of Skid was wow he is huge! But what a handsome boy he is! Very sweet face and a sweet personality to back it up. Skid is fun already, eager to play (loves stuffies) and loves to be petted and wags his tail (you usually don't get this right away from a foster) Introductions with my pack went well, no growling from anyone. This is my first foster boy that has not come in wanting to lift his leg on everything! Actually I have not seen him lift his leg once. Not even outside. Potty training is going well, we had one accident and one close call. When you take him out,  he goes right away. Skid is still a bit clumsy in the house when it comes to stairs and when the flooring surface changes but he is coming along. Introduction with the cat was not as favorable as we would have liked. I think he scared the cat (she is so comfortable with the dogs she was like wait a minute I don't know you!) and she hissed and he freaked! Between the cat scratching him and Brian and I yelling and rushing towards him he doesn't seem to want anything to do the cat now. He is turning away when she walks by.  He is very food motivated, which will come in handy for training. Skid is a strong boy, but doesn't use this to his advantage the only time I have had trouble with his strength is when he got scared on the stairs. Now that was a work out! Skid is a good boy that just wants to please and figure out what all these new places and smells are all about.  If you having been wanting a fun loving silly boy, don't let this one get away!

Brooke's Shaggy - Shaggy ADOPTED
Brindle Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
YES

Shaggy is a sweet, friendly boy, but a bit of a drama queen. He has been going out with the girls for the past few months because the boys are just too rambunctious for him. Shaggy really needs a mellow household, as he gets quite upset over loud noises and worries unnecessarily. He gets along with everyone and is VERY easy-going, he just needs to know that all is right in his world. He is a fun little guy and should make someone a very nice companion. Shaggy tested  well with cats and should be fine with other dogs and well-mannered children.

Foster Home Update: Although Shaggy was a little skeptical about leaving the Greyhound Playground, he jumped right up into the back of the car on his own for the ride home.  At his foster home he met the two resident greys, Mabel and Connor.  No one got terribly excited or upset.  Shaggy did quite a bit of normal "adjustment" panting and pacing the first few hours at home. After settling in a bit, he tried to follow Connor and Mabel up the stairs, but was a little worried about the height.  A gentle tug on his lead brought him up to the top. He went back down on the lead as well.
Entertainment for the second day included going up and down the stairs as much as possible on his own just because he could.  At first, there were uncoordinated limbs tripping and going in every which direction, but he soon learned how to navigate the steps slow and gracefully.  Changing direction midway down the stairs was not easy, but backing up the stairs was even harder. He finally figured out how to get himself turned around and back up.
Shaggy is learning to sit and wait for his food and treats.  He has yet to have an accident in the house. He loves to be around other greys and people and will tuck his face between a human arm and hip to get some good ear rubs.  He learned quickly to be cautious around the cats after one hiss and a raised claw. Shaggy is a sweet, mellow boy who needs only a few gentle corrections and reassurance to let him know what his boundaries are. He's been the perfect foster dog.

GS Pugsley - Pugsley  ADOPTED
Fawn Female
Age - 6
Cat Trainable-
YES

Pugsley is a favorite! Easy-going, but playful and super tolerant of most anything. Pugsley tested well with cats and should be fine with small dogs and children as well.

Foster Home Update: Pugsley is an amazing, affectionate girl! She was a little nervous on the way home and panted most of the way but figured out how to settle in the back seat about halfway home. We're working on "settle" and she's picking it up - she's a quick learner! She took the stairs up to our front door with ease but is a bit hesitant about going up the stairs from our bedroom to the main level of the house. She seems to have caught on well going downstairs though, so she'll be good to go on stairs with a little more adjustment and time. Whidbey & Amaya, our other two greys, got some good exercise showing Pugsley their techniques for mastering the stairs though! Pugsley has been great about going potty and seems to enjoy following the rest of the pack out the slider and into the back yard, taking her cues from them. She seems to know the "potty" command and figured out which part of the yard was designated for potty; she heads there now automatically. She slept through the night with no accidents and let us know (she's a roo'er!) bright and early when she had to go out this morning.

We put some comfy beds into the crate and after Amaya tested out the spot to ensure all was well (quality control is always important), Pugsley hopped in after we gave her the "kennel" command. She settled right in and we heard not a peep from her until she was ready to go outside the following morning. Pugsley also made a friend downstairs next to her crate, she was introduced to "the dog in the mirror" who seemed to ape her every movement! She is still fascinated with the dog in the mirror.

Pugsley loves affection and love but doesn't seem to be excessively food-motivated. We gave out bully sticks this morning and initially she didn't seem interested at all. Eventually, seeing the other two greys munching away she settled onto her bed and started munching herself. She seemed to enjoy it, but had no compunction abandoning the treat in favor of some fresh water. This girl is a great drinker and happily dives into a fresh water bowl. Pugsley smiles often and wags her tail whenever she sees you coming. She is such a great girl, we'd love to keep her if we had room. She is just an amazing, wonderful girl and we can't wait to see her personality continue to bloom and grow. Pugsley can't wait to find her forever home and knows that they will love her as much as she loves them!

CLB Sandi May - Sandy ADOPTED
White/Red Female
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Sandy is really cute and friendly with a super happy nature and charming personality
. She is willing to go along with whatever comes her way. Sandy tested well with cats and should be fine with small dogs as well. Her sweet nature indicates that she should be fine with children as well.

Foster Home Update: Sandi is such a cute little girl. She rode very well in the van on the way home from Kathy's. She stood behind my seat and looked out the window for awhile and then lay down and took a little snooze. She is a little timid, but seems to be coming out of her shell, so many new things to get used to. She loves going out in the yard with Keeper, but is not so confident inside. She seems to be cautious of men and keeps her distance from Ron. She learned stairs the first day and easily goes up a flight of 17 stairs and back down with no problem. Hard wood floors do not bother her. She shows no interest in the kitties and is great with our little Pom and my Mom's Papillion . She sleeps in her crate at night without a whimper and patiently waits for us to come down in the morning to let her out. She walks well on lead, although we haven't taken an official walk yet we plan on doing that today. I look forward to watching her gather her courage and become more comfortable in the house. She is so sweet, you can't help but fall in love with her.

LK's Diane - Diane ADOPTED
Red Fawn Female
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Diane is a real sweetie, with a very kissable face! She is on the large side for a girl, but is very pretty. She tested well with cats and should do fine in most any home. We do not recommend an apartment or condo for her, she can be a bit vocal when crated.

Foster Home Update 03/10/10: Diane is a sweet, affectionate and well-mannered girl. She's like a favorite teddy bear - so soft and huggable. Diane is a quick learner. She has already learned sit, down, wait, leave it, ok and bedtime. She knows to wait for an okay before entering or exiting the front door, going up the front stairs, and to eat. She navigates stairs and shiny floors without problems. Her leash manners are excellent. The leash remains so slack I have to look to make sure she is still on the other end. On our walks she interacts well with all we meet - toddlers to adults and dogs. Diane is a gentle greyhound. She plays well with our greyhound and a small 8 pound dog. She behaves correctly around our cat. Diane lays quietly as our cat rubs against her. The cat has allowed Diane to groom her a few times. Diane will bring joy and smiles to her forever home.

Cajun Zander - Zander ADOPTED
Dark Brindle Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Zander is a quiet, unassuming girl with no desire to rock the boat. She likes attention, but doesn't request it. Zander is a super easy girl, but might not be best for the first time dog owner as she may not engage as quickly as desired. Zander is sweet, but will require a special touch. We don't recommend children for Zander, they just might be too much for her. Cats and small dogs will be fine, she tested very well.

Foster Home Update: Zander is a sweet little girl who is not terribly confident yet. She rode home in the car quietly with classical music on the radio, as I do for all my fosters' first ride home. She met the three here (my Snappy, my foster Curlie, and Garbo, who I am dog sitting), and although they all mobbed her with sniffs in the back yard, it went well. Snappy is being the perfect gentlewoman, Garbo is minding her own business, and I think Curlie feels a bit displaced with two non-residents in the home at once. Curlie is now hanging out on the landing at the top of the stairs, and won't come down except for treats. I think she got used to being the 'project shyness' doggie, and doesn't appreciate being upstaged. Zander spent the first hour or so lying on the rug right in front of the front door. After a while, she ventured further up the hallway, interspersed with explorations of the living room. She spent a quiet night in the crate, and has had no accidents in the house. She hates the dog door (most of them do at first), but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it. She's tentatively enjoying the bones, and her ears perked up when she heard a squeaky toy, but she hasn't played with one yet. She won't take a treat from my hand, but will eat it if I put it down in front of her. Today, I brought her into the living room and had her lie down on a dog bed next to my desk, with a little blanket on her. She seems comfortable with that. I think Zander will warm up quickly, once she realizes that all is well and I exist only to serve her. She's very accommodating of all my requests, but is still a bit hesitant to initiate any actions. She's not half as spooky as some of my shy fosters, and I look forward to her real personality blossoming soon.

Husker Penny - Penny ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 4-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Penny has a fun bouncy personality with a nice play drive and a willingness to engage. She
loves attention and is not shy about asking for it, this one is no shrinking violet. Penny tested well with cats and should be fine with well-behaved small dogs and children as well.

Foster Home Update 03/10/10: This one has been working hard on breaking us all down into adopting a 3rd dog! She has the sweetest eyes and just wants to snuggle up close. What a heart throb she is! She is so sleek and graceful and a delight to watch play in the yard! Penny settled into the routine of things very quickly and doesn't seem to want to lead or challenge the pack. She is a happy girl who can be silly at times. She crates nicely and even enjoys hanging out in there with the door open. I think because she does not like other animals entering her sleep space. She will get a bit snarky but the animals in my house have learned this and stay off her bed when she is on it! She likes time to meet a new dogs and check out her surroundings. If a new dog is too pushy in introduction she will tell them back off by giving a low growl but will come around somewhat quickly for introductions and sniffing. We started off great with potty training and then had some accidents, so we really rained in our potty routine and she has been doing great since.

Fly Like A Bird - Bird  ADOPTED
Red Brindle Male
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bird is a handsome boy, somewhat on the smaller side compared to the other boys in the group. His nature is really easy and he has a nice even temper. Bird is not pushy and is happy to go along with whatever you want him to do. Bird tested well with cats and should be fine with other dogs. Well-mannered children should be no problem for Bird.

Foster Home Update: Bird is a sweet, outgoing, and affectionate love bug. The more he is petted, the happier he is. He did well on the ride home. There was some whining, but he soon settled down. Once we arrived home my other greyhound, Star, came out for introductions. They both seemed very happy to see another greyhound. They are doing a great job getting to know each other. After meeting Star, we went inside to meet Gracie, the cat. Bird looked at Gracie as if to say "what is that?". I gave him a stern "leave it". He has had little interest since. The peak of Birds day, may have been getting to know my two young children, 20 months and 4 years. There was a lot of tail wagging and dancing. He can get a little too excited for very small children and push them over with his affections. We will continue working on his manners. He just loves them so much. He didn't take long to file right in with the family. Bird quickly discovered the security of his kennel. He chooses to spend most of his down time in the kennel cuddled up with stuffies. I tried to let him sleep in our bedroom the first night. I soon realized that an open room is too much too soon for him. The next night we tried the kennel and we didn't hear a peep all night. The first night he also tried to mark. However, he has not tried again after that first day. He is doing great "going" outside. He even goes to the back to the designated "poo" area. I was able to do some basic grooming. I was a little fearful. As I was with Star when I first got him. To my surprise, he not only tolerated it, he began to chatter. He will chatter for chicken jerky too. Bird is so much fun. He joined us in rooing and he will play fetch. We still need to work on walking on lead, he is progressing well. In this short amount of time he has brought us joy and laughter. I know he will bring happiness to his forever home.

Blister - Blister  ADOPTED
Red Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Blister is simply gorgeous with his dark red coat and sunny disposition. While he is very well behaved if he knows you are in charge, he has been been known to take advantage of less confident individuals. Not that he is a bad boy, he just tends to play the situation as far as he can, all in the name of fun. Blister is super friendly and VERY smart, he definitely is a thinker. He tested well with cats, and should be fine with other dogs. He should be fine with children as well, though caution should be exercised with smaller children as he may get excited and be a bit too boisterous for them.

Foster Home Update: Blister is a ball of fire!  He is fun, playful and full of Joy!  He slept well in his Kennel last night with only one small whine to say he was there.  He does have a strong desire to get up on things, whether it be beds, couches or feet on counters!  BUT... with that personality its easy to imagine he will give some wonderful family YEARS of fun excitement.  He has manners, and will be a good boy if told what he is supposed to do, just don't let him get away with something once, or he will push push push for more.  He loves to play... but the evenings are nice curled up with him to cuddle. He isn't phased by hard wood floors and is learning the dog door.  The kitty interests him a bit, but he just wants to know what it is, and when told no is very respectful of it. All summed up... there isn't any family situation this dog could not handle!

Run Bert - Bert ADOPTED
Brindle Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bert is a nice easy-going sort of guy with a really mellow disposition, if he could wear Hippie beads and tie-dye he would. Bert tested well with cats, but has not lived with them so caution should be exercised. His easy nature indicates that he would be a good candidate for a home with children, though he has yet to be exposed to them.

Foster Home Update: Bert is a sweetie! Just enough playfulness and sweetness rolled into one.  He loves stuffed animals and is very happy to be rubbed and brushed.  He could be trained to fetch as he loves chasing balls!  His adorable half nostril makes me smile every time I see him!  He has these soulful eyes that say "how are you?  Are you ok?  What can I do for you!"  He is cat proof, wood floor proof and dog door trained!  What a smart and fun boy he will be!

Bob's Sal - Sal  ADOPTED
Red Brindle Male
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
NO

Sal is a big boy, we expect that he will end up around 85 pounds. He is as handsome as they come with a friendly outgoing nature, though extremely mellow when the situation indicates. Sal did NOT test well with cats, so extreme caution should be exercised around small animals. He may be fine with small dogs, but introductions should be carefully orchestrated.

Foster Home Update:

Pat C Co Op- Coop ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Coop is a sweet, friendly. She may be a bit unsure of herself at first, but you’ll see her silly personality develop as she gets comfortable. Coop did not test well with cats, so a home without them is best. She might also prefer a child free environment as she is still a bit unsure of herself.

Foster Home Update: Coop is settling in nicely. She's a shy girlie, but is gaining trust. She hasn't had an accident in the house since the night I brought her home, and learned the dog door quickly the first day. She's not thrilled with going up stairs, but is expert at coming down. Coop is happy in her crate. She spends time in and out of it of her own volition, and has no complaints at being in it for the night. She likes to stand by me with a part of her touching me, but is getting more adventurous. Her tail is relaxing from the tucked position, and this morning when I liberated her, she actually wagged her tail! She got a bit bouncy while breakfast was being served, following my girls' lead. She's spending much more time out of her crate, and is enjoying the dog beds in the living room and on the patio in the sun.

Coop hasn't gotten into anything naughty at all. She's quietly curious, and is still exploring the toy crate and the rawhide bone bucket. I'm looking forward to Coop blossoming further. She's doing well and making
great strides. She's a sweet little girl with a lot of love to give.

Explorer - Heff  ADOPTED
Brindle Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
NO

Heff was returned to us through no fault of his own. He is a perfectly lovely dog with a wonderful personality and will make a fine companion for someone. Heff showed a fair amount of interest in cats when he was tested so we do not recommend him for a home with cats, though smaller dogs might be fine if properly introduced. Children should be no issue, Heff previously lived with a small child.

Foster Home Update: We arrived home, and our Doxies were kenneled, we walked in the door, and our four Greyt Greyhound Girls met us at the door, very excited. Their comments were, O BOY, A BOY, CAN WE KEEP HIM MOM, CAN WE, HUH, HUH, HUH? Our male doxie was glad we had another boy, and turned over Harem Master duty to Heff. We turned all the greyhounds out to explore the yard, and let the Doxies out later. Heff has not paid any attention at all to the Doxies.  Heff kept going back and forth from one to another last night, leaning hard against us, his teeth chattering away like mad. He finally picked out a bed and sacked out, completely content. At bed time, he walked into the bedroom, and took the bed where he slept before. At 4:15 this AM, Angel said she wanted to go out, and Heff went along. At 8:30 this AM, Heff walked up along side me and whined to tell us it was turn out time. When he came in, he looked up to the spot where the treats are at, and wanted one. Sheena, Angel, Smoke and Chloe hope that everyone will forget where Heff is at.

Curlie- Curlie ADOPTED
Black Female
Age - 1-1/2
Cat Trainable-
NO

Curlie is energetic and mischievous, with a fun personality, though it may take a bit to see that side of her. Once she understands that things are going to be ok in her little world she will relax and settle in to home life nicely. She's full of life and loves to play.  She loves playing with other dogs and she loves toys! Curlie initially tested well with cats, but seems to be showing more interest than we are comfortable with now.

Foster Home Update: Curlie is a sweet sensitive girl who is eager to please, and once she trusts you, she will win your heart. She doesn't like loud noises or sudden movements, and can act shy if you approach her too quickly, but is happy to come to you if you hold still and stretch out your hand. When I’m petting my other dogs, she comes up to get her share, too. Curlie is completely house-trained and has never had an accident inside. She’s great with stairs, the dog door, and sitting for a treat. She’s a good car passenger; she loves to view the passing scenery, and rides quietly but alertly. She exhibited a bit too much interest in a tiny dog, but is happy, confident, and playful with my two greyhounds. She can hold her own with my girlies, and is happy to initiate or respond to ‘play with me’ cues. She loves her stuffies and rawhides. When she's happy, her tail really does curl right in a circle. Curlie is good with kids; the neighborhood children often knock on my door and ask to see the girls. I bring them out one at a time and Curlie loves the attention and petting. She’s not a barker, except for the occasional play request. She’ll follow Carrie’s mad rush out the dog door at the mere rumor of a squirrel, but doesn’t make any noise. She’s not fond of being locked in the crate, but is happy to lie in it at her leisure. She’s used to being muzzled, along with mine, when I’m not home. Curlie is happy and healthy, and though I’m very much not in a hurry to see her go, I’ll be happy for her when she finds her forever home. She's a sweet, unassuming girl who will make someone a devoted and loving companion.

Nashville Knight - Knight ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Knight is small for a boy, but packs a lot of punch with his happy-go-lucky personality. He gets along well with other dogs and likes people. Knight tested well with cats so should do just fine with small dogs and/or cats. Since he doesn't have a crabby bone in his body we feel he will tolerate well-behaved children just fine too.

Foster Home Update: This beautiful black boy has the prettiest coat I have ever seen! I cant wait to get some oils in him so I can see it SHINE! He is great with our daughter and with our other greyhound. We are working with the kitties. He seems to be interested but VERY attentive to us when we tell him NO KITTIES! He is a counter surfer, we will work on that. He will come for attention when called, and loves to be rubbed, scratched, kissed and hugged! He would be a dog that must be watched at the front door, he loses his manners when the door is opened and wants to push past. He doesn't seem to quite get the dog door yet, doesn't like it touching his nose... But in time he will become a pro just like our other grey!    I see NO REASON anyone would overlook this *Looker*! Black is the new Black!!

Sweets - Sweets ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable- YES

Sweets was recently returned through no fault of her own. She has lived in a home with numerous children and did very well with them. This fun little girl would appreciate a forever home this time around. She is doing great with the cats in her foster home and is wonderful with children.

Foster Home Update: Sweets is certainly a good name for this little girl because she is a real sweetie. She is a very petite little girl with a huge heart. She soaks up all the "loves" she can get. She has a happy tail and uses it a lot. She has done very well with the kitties. I was very cautious for the first day she was here, but she responded really well and is now muzzle free and has shown no intention of chasing them. She even stands very still when they come up to sniff her. She and Keeper love to go out in the yard and run together. She is completely potty trained and will whine to let me know when she needs to go out. (I don't have a pet door because I have inside cats). She also does well with a pet door. From the fist night she was here she has been no problem. She readily goes into her crate and is content to sleep in it for naps and at night. The first night she was here she never made a peep when she went into the crate and she contentedly stayed in it until I came down at 8:00 AM to let the
dogs out. She didn't even whine when she heard me come down. What a little sweetheart she is. Sweets is very food motivated and I think very trainable. She already responds to stay as I am teaching her to stay out of the kitchen. She LOVES to eat and is not a finicky eater. She is quite thin so I am feeding her plenty to see if I can get a little meat on her bones. She has a very good personality, not overly active but not shy. She loves to meet people and get pets from anyone who will oblige her. I cannot think of one negative thing about her. She has been the "Model" pup and as sweet as can be. Someone will be a very lucky person to get this little girl, I am sure she will not be available for long.

RJ's Stratus - Stratus ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Stratus has a serious side and is very easy-going. He is perfectly happy to follow your lead and does so with ease. Stratus tested well with cats and should be fine with either cats or small well behaved dogs as he gets along fine with everyone. Children should be fine too, he is very accepting.

Foster Home Update: Stratus is absolutely adorable. He is the quietest Greyhound I've had. On the way home he curled up in the  back and went to sleep. I have never had a dog sleep on the way home so I freaked and figured he'd found some way to escape the locked moving car. I screeched to a halt and his head popped up questioningly. Whew! He is doing well
with stairs, hardwood floors, eating, pottying, leash walking, knowing his bed and Salsa. What else is there you may ask? Counter surfing- he wants to smell, lick, nudge or eat all in his reach. I've put up a gate to the kitchen and cleaned the table tops in the rest of the house and keep the bathroom door closed. He is learning the word NO. He has tried hot tea (no thanks!), a bite of cheesecake (more please!) and half a protein shake (yum!). I'm needing to train myself to not put anything down for the moment. He is so loving- he wants to be right next to you and LOVES to be petted. I have left him at home muzzled for a few hours and he waited quietly for my return. He's going to make someone an amazing companion.

Pat C Take Down - Bronco ADOPTED
Brindle Male
Age - 2-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Bronco is a very nice boy with a fun personality, he definitely has a zest for life and will be a fun companion for the right home. He is up for anything and a very social boy. Bronco tested well with cats and should do fine with proper introductions and proper caution. Older children should be fine, but young children might find him intimidating because he is so bouncy.

Foster Home Update: Bronco is a very sweet boy who loves attention and is not shy about giving kisses. He and Allison hit it off right away and now they seem as if they have known each other for years. Bronco responds well to "come" and "no" but it takes assertiveness because he reacts to everything with lots of energy and it can seem as if he isn't paying attention. He has been on several long walks and has been very friendly to neighborhood dogs and people.

Easy's Big Apple - Elite ADOPTED
Red Fawn Male
Age - 3-1/2
Cat Trainable-
YES

Elite is a fun boy with a bounce in his step and a charming personality. He will work his way into your heart in no time if given the chance. Elite gets along well with other dogs and is not at all pushy. He tested well with cats and should be fine with either cats or small well-behaved dogs. Older children should be fine.

Foster Home Update:

Blushable Star - Star ADOPTED
Dark Brindle Male
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES

Star is a nice, easy-going, boy with a charming disposition. Though he may want to try to be in charge of things in a multi-dog household, he backs off readily once he understands that the people are in charge and it is not his job, Star tested well with cats and should do fine with a well adjusted small dog as well.

Foster Home Update: Star has blossomed into a very sweet, and loving gentleman. He is no longer head shy and comes to me and other family members for affection. He now plays with Molly and Prescott, our other dogs, on a regular basis. Star plays very nice and keeps his play under control. My other male tends to get a little carried away and needs reminders to play nice. We have had NO issues at all with the kitties in the house. We actually recently added a kitten to the pack and he showed the least amount of interest in her arrival. Stars biggest weakness is food! Although I wouldn't suggest leaving your sandwich on the coffee table unattended, food is a great motivator for Star. With a treat in hand he will do just about anything! Star has had no housebreaking issues other than the initial marking the first day, he quickly learned that was not okay. Star now barks when he needs to go out, which is a nice bonus. Star is extremely friendly and wags his tail constantly! He will bring joy and laughter to just about any household!

JG Esmorelda- Esme  ADOPTED
Red Brindle Female
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Esme is a really sweet loving girl, she is eager to please and learns very quickly. She should be an easy addition to most any home. She is a lovely social being that wants to be a lap dog, she is just looking for the right lap. Esme tested well with cats and should be fine in most any situation.

Foster Home Update: What a HAM! She is a perfect greyhound. No accidents in the house, slept thru the night, and PLAYS WITH TOYS! She is a lively girl... always looking in the nooks and crannies. NO TOY IS SAFE :) She's appropriate with them though, not shredding, but throwing and chasing. What a cutie. SO far she seems fine with the cats. Last night, she sniffed at the cat and he came at her whacking her across the nose, she ran away, and then turned back to say WHAT THE HECK! She gave a bark and bowed to him, ready to go again. Since then, she is a bit more wary of the kitties.

Leonardo - Leonardo ADOPTED
White/Brindle Male
Age - 5
Cat Trainable-
YES

What a gem this boy is! Leonardo is a happy boy with charm to spare, he wont last long once people start to meet him. Leonardo has been in a home for the past two years and was returned to us for placement due to economic hardship. He has lived with a large variety of farm animals and is tolerant of most anything, small animals included. Leonardo is looking for a home to spend the rest of his life in, if you are not commitment phobic that home could be yours!

Foster Home Update: Leo has been a perfect gentleman from the time he walked into the house and met our pack. four Greyhounds and two Dachshunds.  He is playful, can't seem to get enough loving and petting. Once in awhile, will get excited on a leash and pull, but quickly settles down. He gets in the GUV, (Greyhound Utility Vehicle) and lays down until you arrive. As soon as you crack he door, he wants to get out. Get the leash first. Leo has been to several Meet and Greets at Petco and Petsmart, and has been a great ambassador for the Greyhound Adoption Program.

Just like at home, if another Grey is getting petted, he comes over to get his share.  Leo is a handsome large male, not the largest, but just right. Very striking markings. With four female Greyhounds, and one female Dachshund, Leo has taken over as Harem master, giving our elderly male Doxie a well earned rest. The neighbors cats stay out of the back yard, so we have not observed his actions. Leo has barked a few times at the squirrels, but not much. He plays with squeaky toys, and his favorite sleeping position is on his back, with his feet in the air, or propped on some furniture. The family that adopts this young fellow will get a very loving Greyhound. We will really be sad to see him leave.

Pat C Glow- Glow  ADOPTED
Black/White Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
NO

Glow is a super sweet girl with a good nature and eagerness to please, plus she is pretty smart! She will need to be contained in a yard with padlocks on the gate, as she is able to open lever style gate latches. Glow arrived in Colorado with a healed left radius/ulna fracture of her foreleg. The break had healed badly, so surgery was performed in May to re-set the fracture. She had her external fixater removed 8/25/09 and she is using the leg relatively well. There should be continued improvement in her use of the leg over the next 4-8 weeks. She may never have completely normal use of the leg, but should be fine for normal “pet” activities. Glow did not test well with cats, so a home without them would be best. As smart as she is though, she might be able to learn to leave the kitties alone with an experienced handler.

Foster Home Update: The word that best describes Glow is affectionate. She absolutely loves people. She loves to get attention and to give snuggles and snuffles, and she is on a quest to be the best leaning and lap dog ever. All my co-workers commented on how calm and beautiful she is.  I kept her muzzled as she hasn't met many other non-greyhounds. She sniffs at my two dogs, but they don't seem to be that important in her world. Glow uses the dog doors and is learning to jump into and out of the car. She still favors her foot occasionally after walking or being up and about for a long time, but doesn't seem to be in pain--more tiredness. Glow walks on the leash and is very interested in the outside world. Poor appetite is not a problem. She is learning things such as keeping out of the other dogs' bowls and "come" quickly, and responds well to correction and praise. Glow hasn't met any kids yet, but really wagged her tail when the neighbor girl looked over the fence and said hi.

Pat C Primed - Prime ADOPTED
Dark Brindle Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Prime is a quiet, somewhat reserved guy, he may seem a bit shy at first, but warms up quickly once he gets to know you. He is a handsome boy and has a very sweet nature in spite of his apparent shyness. Prime did not test well with cats, so a home without them would be best for him. Due to his sensitive nature, he might also appreciate a home with quieter or older children.

Foster Home Update: Prime is an irresistible dog! He loves to lay his head on my chest and gaze into my eyes- HELP I'm mmmelting.......He is having a somewhat scary time with his new environment but overall is doing very well- he hopped right up the stairs- was unfazed by Salsa- marched right across the hardwood floors. He didn't eat or drink for 15 hours (now doing both) and he didn't lie down for about 3 hours after his arrival (now lounges on his bed). I left him at home yesterday for a few hours in his muzzle and when I got home it was clear he panicked- he got out of his muzzle and knocked things over and took down some curtains- did not get into anything or chew anything up- just was scared. Today he is crated while I'm at work and (from experience) I know he needs that security while I'm gone. He sleeps all night right next to my bed on his pillow
and has not had one accident even when he was afraid! He did the absolute cutest thing after I got home yesterday- every time I sat down he came over to me and put his big doggie paw over my foot to keep me home. He's an absolute lover and I see him getting more confident every day.

Glo's Nagurski - Viper ADOPTED
Black Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
NO

Viper is a smart dog, and super cute! He knows how to open gates and may learn how to open doors in time. He will need a nice secure setting with locking gates!  Viper has a great personality, he LOVES to play with squeaky toys and will run after them if tossed, for as long as you are willing to toss them for him. He just wants to hang out with people and see what's up. Viper seems like the kind of dog that would enjoy a home with children to play with him. Viper did NOT test well with cats, so he will need a home that is free of small animals, though medium sized dogs might not be a problem with proper introductions. Due to his high PLAY drive we would not suggest a home with small dogs as they might be injured during play.

Foster Home Update: Viper has been such a wonderful foster boy. He is a smart guy and learned the 'demarcation' line for the 'no-dogs-land' (kitchen) within the first hour of being here. He is a very happy dog and loves nothing more but his squeakies and being covered with a 'blankie' for going to bed. He is very taken with the neighborhood kids and patiently gets his petting sessions from them. He is extremely good with letting you know that he needs to go outside and is very well mannered on a leash. Playtime is his favorite time. He will chase a ball or a anything squeaky until your arm falls off. Other dogs are no problem, though mind yourself if you're a cat or a squirrel, he will never forget where he saw you last.

Viper has no problem being handled. He patiently has his nails trimmed or sits through any 'doctoring' that might be needed. He will be such an easy, pleasant and joyful addition to any family, especially if there are kids involved. A dream dog and if I was in the market for another companion, I definitely would not be writing this.

Midwest Money - Money SPECIAL NEEDS ADOPTED
Red/White Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Midwest Money, is a boy who through his years in the industry has been left somewhat institutionalized and a  little untrusting of human motives.  Money was returned to Royal Hounds because five weeks after his adoption his adopters began to observe some unpredictable personality changes in him which they weren't able to resolve. Money seems to have fear aggression, he sometimes responds unfavorably if you try to touch any part of his body, except for his face, he loves having his face and head touched and petted.

Money has undergone medical tests, and behavioral evaluations, all resulting in him being a healthy greyhound boy. What Money needs is an experienced patient hand who's willing to put in the extra effort, taking the baby steps needed, to encourage him to trust in his people.

Foster Home Update: Money continues to grow, but has had some set-backs. His trust issues are becoming less with each passing day. Money is cordial towards new dogs of which he interacts with a never ending supply.  Small dogs inspire him to take a nap! Money has NEVER  had an accident or caused damage to anything while staying here. He could be an only dog, but, he often follows the lead of other greys which helps him to accelerate his trust. Money is a wonderful boy and each and every person who visits here, sometimes five to ten people a day, comment on his beauty and his friendly personable greetings! Money really enjoys play-time and will quickly come if he hears a squeaky toy. He loves to chase a ball and enjoys playing with other dogs.

Silene- Seline  ADOPTED
White/Red Female
Age - 3
Cat Trainable-
YES, with an experienced handler.

Selene is a
Longdog so her coat is rougher and more wiry than a smoother coated pure-bred greyhound. She is a one of the sweetest dogs we have seen, always offering a HUGE toothy grin, and up for just about anything. Selene LOVES her toys and is up for play anytime, anywhere, she is the definition of FUN! Like a toddler, she seems to need to taste everything, this behavior should pass as she becomes more accustomed to her new life. She tested well with cats, but shows extreme interest in birds and other small wildlife. She is not being fostered in a home with a cat, so exteme caution should be exercised if she is placed with small animals. Selene should do fine with children, she might even appreciate them.

Foster Home Update: She is an extremely sweet dog. Very friendly, great with the kids and loves to be part of every family activity. It would be very easy to become a "foster failure" with this one - she has an amazing personality that is equal parts gentle and playful. She is quite bright, and should respond very well to basic training - already she is learning our house rules. She gets along well with our dog Charlotte - at least she tries to get along, sniffing and encouraging Charlotte to play. Charlotte, however, is pretending there is not another dog in the house, and more-or-less ignoring Selene. She has a classic greyhound "smile" - and shows it all the time.

Selene is a determined counter cruiser. We've had to correct her several times - including a couple of instances where she put both front paws on the kitchen counter. She is also very "nosy" sticking her head under your arm to see what is happening, and always underfoot in the kitchen. However, she's so cute and friendly it is easy to let her get away with a lot. She has a strong interest in kids toys, shoes, kitchen towels, furniture, and just about anything else she can get her mouth around. Very puppy-like in her desire to chew, however she has responded well to a sharp vocal correction, after which we immediately give her a dog toy or bully stick - trying to let her know that these are things that are OK to chew. She loves to chase tennis balls. She sleeps well through the night in her crate. It was mentioned that she was prone to ripping and chewing the bedding, but we put several safe toys in the crate, and she seems to have used those, rather than the blanket.

There were a couple of accidents in the house the first night, but nothing unexpected. By the following morning, she was clearly understanding that outside was where she should go, and signaling that she needed to go out by pawing the back door. We get the strong sense she will be very easy to house train. She has had no more accidents since the first night. The whole family is in love with this girl. She is a real sweetheart and it will be hard to part with her!

Pat C Surge On - Gilbert ADOPTED
Red Brindle Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable- YES

Gilbert is a VERY sweet boy with an endearing personality. He is up for pretty much anything and will be a wonderful companion for the lucky family that gets him. Gilbert tested well with cats and should be fine in just about any environment. He might enjoy children, at the very least he should tolerate them very well.

Foster Home Update: He is a great boy. He is extremely loving and loves to lean into you to get loves. He loves scratches, fetches squeaky toys, runs with the girls and loves our 7 year old! At this point he has NO ISSUES! He doesn't potty in the house anymore and sleeps well in his kennel at night, as well as during the day when we are at work. He eats like a champ! Still needs to gain a few more pounds but we will work on that. He did chase the indoor kitty today... and that is something we will work on but understood when I yelled NO KITTIES!!! NAUGHTY!!!  I look forward seeing him blossom even more as the days go by! HE will be the perfect dog for some lucky Forever family

Security Detail - Detail   ADOPTED
Red Male
Age - 4
Cat Trainable-
YES

Security is a handsome boy weighing in at around 80 pounds. He should have no trouble fitting into most any situation and should be a wonderful companion. Security tested well with cats, but caution should be exercised with initial introductions.

Foster Home Update:

CB Slam Home - Slammer ADOPTED
Red/White Male
Age - 6
Cat Trainable-
YES

This boy is easy-going and a real love. Slam always waits patiently for his turn and never complains. He's confident but not pushy. Slam will be a great companion.  He will love his new family and will work hard to please. Slam tested well with cats and should fit nicely with other dogs.

Foster Home Update: Slammer's made some incredible improvements since his first night. He confidently navigates the stairs now, though going up is a lot easier than going down. He's making progress on the hardwood floor issue - he very carefully chooses the path with the least amount of wood and most amount of area rug. Too funny! He appears to be rather particular about his eating habits. He will not finish his meal if he's disturbed in the slightest. Last night my dad and I made the mistake of trying to walk behind him as he was finishing up his dinner. He turned away from the bowl and couldn't be lured back at all. He still shows no interest in crunchy bones or snacks. The only treats he deigns to eat are the soft training tidbits, and these must be hand fed, not dropped on the floor. We're also discovering he's a bit of a nervous pooer. Last night Tracy was out in the yard with him for half an hour waiting for him to do his business before bed. I went out and joined them for another 10 minutes. After Tracy went back in, Slammer did both almost right away. Hopefully he'll get used to doing his business with Tracy watching him too. Personality-wise, he's an absolute doll. He's completely calm and unruffled.  He likes the security of his crate still and he's not an interest in toys yet, or joining in when Abby barks, "come play!" But his favorite place in the world is right next to you, waiting for scratches. I was sitting on the floor last night talking on the phone, and he came and put his big greyhound face about two inches from mine and stood there without moving, just waiting for attention. He'll make some family an incredibly easygoing pet. Based on his interactions with Abby, I would think he could easily be an only dog, or one of a small pack.
She's On Fire- Coby ADOPTED
Brindle Female
Age - 6
Cat Trainable-
NO

Coby is a really nice girl, fun and outgoing with personality to spare! She is very friendly and will be your best buddy if you let her. Coby
did NOT test well with cats, however, she may do fine with smaller dogs if properly introduced.

Foster Home Update: Day Two and more of the same (yawn!)... sleeping, playing, eating... Coby is SO well-mannered and has a lot of confidence in herself and trust in people. She seems to have come through years of institutionalization basically untraumatized. She's discovering the joys of the cool spot on the patio on a hot afternoon, having a dog door to go in and out as she wants and doggy friends to play with. Patrick's Aussie Shepard is teaching her some Aussie-ese ("Ahhh-roooo-ruff!").  Sweet Coby has slept peacefully through the nights and eagerly awaits mealtime. Her only barking has been when she discovered the bin where the food is kept!  Walking Luxury (dark brindle) and Coby (light brindle) together is a huge head-turner, even here in dog-saturated North Tacoma. If we didn't already have four dogs between us, we would definitely fail at fostering Coby.
