Royal Hounds is
a nonprofit, tax exempt organization, comprised solely of volunteers, who give graciously of their time and love, to this noble breed with the common goal of finding secure and loving homes for the many ex-racing and retired Hounds that grace us with their presence.
Our volunteers are committed to finding homes FIRST, and then determining what type of dog will best suit the approved adopters lifestyle and needs. Greyhounds are all different, having different temperaments and personalities. While some may seem similar, no two are alike. They require the correct setting if they are to thrive in their new home and adjust easily to their new life.
We work closely with Heather Weir DVM, of Loveland Colorado, to match up dogs with the home that best suits their particular temperament. Dr. Weir is very intuitive and always manages to bring us wonderful dogs that fit beautifully into their prospective homes, with a bit of patience and understanding.
We generally do not have available dogs on hand to adopt, once in a while we may, but this is rare. Adopting from us
usually means that there will be a waiting period, during this time we suggest that you research the breed and prepare yourselves for a change in your lifestyle once your dog arrives.
Our current adoption
fee is $225, this includes; spay/neuter, dental, vaccinations, worming,
initial application of Frontline (flea and tick product), transportation
from Colorado, an informative adoption packet, new adopter class,
educational in home visit, collar, lead, muzzle, and microchip. You also inherit a
great support group to help out with any questions you may have, and to
assist in the transition from the racing industry to a career as your
new best friend.
