Foster A Greyhound
Hello hound-lovers. Would you consider FOSTERING a newly-retired greyhound?
Royal Hounds urgently needs FOSTER HOMES for our Australian dogs who arrive at various times throughout the year because of our ongoing relationship with the Australian organization
RACING2REHOME. We have no kennel facility and rely on volunteers to make the dogs’ transitions on a home-to-home basis once they leave their racing kennels in Australia.
Won’t you open your heart and your home to a retired racing dog longing to be a pet and needing a short-term soft warm landing to begin this wonderful transition? If you are pondering adopting a retired racer, here’s a way to get to know if a hound will fit into your life. If you have not fostered before, why not try? Help out a dog— who will be excited and grateful to see you. As will all RH volunteers, and eventually especially the dog’s new forever owners/friends!
If you have fostered before, think about doing it again—you KNOW how heart-opening this experience can be, and how welcome your foster hound then will be in his/her forever home because you gave the dog a happy secure sendoff and helped him/her learn to be a beloved pet? And how grateful the new best friends of the hound will be for the care you took with their dog.
Application: Same form as for adoption found here. And please read all the information about taking on a greyhound you will find there. But, of course, there is no fee involved for fostering! Contact: [email protected].
RH provides everything you will need to bring home a foster Aussie greyhound—food, crate, leash, etc. Dogs are often adopted shortly after they arrive, or within a few weeks. AND, even if only a weekend or a few days of fostering is what you can offer, a dog can benefit from your time and generosity! Let us know that you are interested and we will contact you. If you can’t help out soon, the dogs arrive frequently, and it might work for you at some other point? Apply!
We (and the hounds) are deeply grateful for your offer to foster a hound. It’s just possible that you won’t want to send your foster dog on to another home, and that you will find him or her a permanent spot in your heart and your family.
